Matt Baker, 43, has been supported by his wife Nicola Baker after he admitted feeling “apprehensive” about embarking on the Rickshaw Challenge this year. The Countryfile star was forced to miss tuning into the latest episode of his family’s More4 reality show Our Farm in the Dales this evening while travelling away from home for the next stage of the challenge in Manchester.

Matt explained he was worried about the future of the challenge, which he takes on each year for BBC Children in Need, as it won’t be featuring on The One Show following his exit from the programme.

The presenter divulged in a candid Instagram video shared with his 285,000 followers: “Hi all, so we are now on our way to Manchester, Salford way.

“The rickshaw is on a trailer behind us because this year, we are taking the rickshaw around the UK and allowing riders to cycle it on home turf and places that are special to them.

“So we’ve had a brilliant first day, check out the Instagram Stories with what’s been going on for Thomas on day one but yeah, it’s a bit of a road trip this year.

“Loving it, absolutely loving it as always, big thanks to everybody that’s come out on the road to support us.

“I was a bit apprehensive as to what would be happening as far as the fact that we’re not on The One Show this year.”

Fortunately, Matt went on to say that he had no reason to worry, as a big crowd gathered to support him and his fellow riders.

The star added: “But there’s so much love out there for the rickshaw, so I’m incredibly proud of that.

“So thank you so much and also just a little reminder that Our Farm in the Dales is on tonight, More4, nine o’clock, it’s all happening!

“I’ll see you later, bye for now,” he concluded.

Matt captioned his emotional video: “The Rickshaw road trip! Were off to Manchester after an Epic Day 1!(sic)

“As I’m travelling I’m gonna miss our farm in the dales tonight at 9 on more4 so tell me what you think….

Matt was inundated with well wishes following his heartfelt video, with one of the first being from his wife Nicola.

She penned in the comments section: “Hope you’ve all managed to dry out!”

Matt was cycling the first leg of the challenge today with 16-year-old Tom from Somerset.

The rickshaw challenge is featuring a twist this year, as Matt and the team will complete a relay-style ride in five chapters.

Each inspirational rider will take on a leg each, travelling through their hometowns and significant places for them personally.

It comes after Matt’s other half Nicola teased her 25,000 followers with what was to come during tonight’s episode of her family’s hit TV show in his absence.

She posted a snap of three adorable baby goats from their farm and said their names would be revealed on the show.

Nicola penned alongside the picture: “We’re naming the pygmy goat kids in Episode 3 of Our Farm in the Dales tonight at 9pm on More4.

“I wonder what we decided on?…… #farmlife #goatkids #pygmygoats.”
