If You're Not Already Obsessed with Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa of Blackpink, You're About to Be

Pick one: Blackpink is a) amazing, b) the most popular girl group on Spotify, or c) all of the above. The correct answer is obviously—ding-ding-ding—C! All of the above.

On the off chance that you’ve been sleeping on Blackpink, please wake up immediately. You can start by watching their Netflix documentary, which chronicles their breakout with South Korean talent agency YG Entertainment! And in the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, aka the people who blessed us with”Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.”

At the age of 26, Jisoo is the oldest member of Blackpink. She also happens to be a casual beauty influencer (like, to the point where she’s a Dior ambassador, no bigs), and she’s about to star in the new South Korean drama Snowdrop.

Jisoo grew up in South Korea with her parents, sister, brother, and grandparents—and nope, it turns out she didn’t always want to be a performer. “I’m living a very different life than the one I thought I’d be living,” she said in Netflix’s doc. “I used to want to be a writer or a painter. I couldn’t paint well though.”

Jisoo got into acting after joining a drama club in 11th grade, and auditioned at talent house YG Entertainment in 2011. The rest? Blackpink history.

Jennie was raised in Seoul until the age of ten, at which point she moved to New Zealand by herself for a home stay. “I got to just run around, learn so many things,” she said in Netflix’s doc. “They have classes in school to go out, go camping, go learn instruments, if you want, do art. Everything was up to you, like, even if you’re ten, you still got to make your own decisions. That was very important for me to have at a young age. That built me as who I am right now.”

Despite being on stage 24/7, Jennie is pretty introverted, saying, “I am super shy. I was one of those people where I can’t even order something on the phone, I hated that.”

When Jennie turned 15, she decided she wanted to become a singer and auditioned at YG Entertainment—making her Blackpink’s first member. As she told Elle, “I was the first one on the team, and I got to watch everybody come in.”

FYI, while not much is known about Blackpink’s personal lives, Jennie has been linked to BIGBANG’s G-Dragon. Per StyleCaster, YG Entertainment released a statement that read, “We cannot confirm anything about our artists’ personal lives. We ask for your understanding.”

Lisa is Blackpink’s lead dancer and rapper, and if you’re wondering about her impeccable style, please note she’s obsessed with vintage shopping. Like Jisoo, Lisa has landed some pretty amazing campaigns—including with MAC:

Lisa got into performing thanks to her aunt (who had her own music group), and took dance lessons while growing up in Thailand. She didn’t speak Korean when she auditioned for YG, and bonded with Jennie who also spoke English. “I only knew how to say ‘hello,’ so it really was a new start,” Lisa said. “Fortunately there was Jennie. She was the only one who could speak English among the trainees. I spoke English with her. If something were to happen, I would talk to her.”

P.S. Lisa has been dubbed the best dancer of the group, a fact they can all agree on:

Rosé

A post shared by ROSÉ (@roses_are_rosie)

Rosé was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, and actually auditioned for YG when they came to Australia back in 2012. “They called me and they were like, ‘Can you fly to Korea within two months?'” Rosé told Netflix. “And then my whole life changed. I dropped out of school in Australia. I dropped out of school. I had never even imagined myself living apart from my family.”

Rosé, Jisoo, Lisa, and Jennie ended up staying in the same dorm, and immediately bonded, covering songs late into the morning. But the move was definitely an adjustment for Rosé. “I was born and raised in an English-speaking country,” she told Elle. “So [Jennie] helped me out with the cultural differences. I had never danced in my life.”

Rosé is a born musician and writes her own songs—and she literally just announced her solo debut so get TF ready:
