32-year-old Strictly Come Dancing professional Katya Jones shared a touching tribute on her Instagram stories today, telling of her love and compassion for her nanny and honouring her birthday.
Marking the occasion with a photo of her fully masked-up relative, she admitted sadly: “Dementia is taking over her brain.”
It kills me thinking about whether I’ll get to see her again

The Strictly star is longing to see her Lithuanian grandmother again, who currently lives in Russia, and is awaiting a chance to reunite.
Speaking of the bittersweet emotions she now has after a video call with her beloved relative, she wrote on Instagram: “I’m happy, but I’m sad.
“I’m glad I’m able to see her and talk to her over FaceTime.
“She is now in the care home… but she still remembers me, which I was beyond grateful for.
“She looks well, but it kills me thinking about whether I’ll get to see her again in person.”
In a nod to her rural upbringing, she mentioned the times when she would visit her ancestral village as a child.
“I spent so many summers with her in the tiny village in Lithuania, growing our own potatoes, looking after the garden, looking after each other.
“Our connection is so profound.”
In an indication of the close bond that they share, she added: “I know for a fact that her only motivation has been the date, circled in the calendar, when I was coming to Russia to see her!
“Nan, I love you so much.
“Please let’s look forward to the day when I can give you a hug again!”
With nearly 200,000 Instagram followers and a glittering career, with recent performances on Strictly among its highlights, Katya’s schedule is packed.
However, the caption about her grandmother suggests that she is very much a family girl at heart.
At the weekend, she took a little time out to see a friend in Essex, enjoying afternoon tea at the George Hotel on Colchester’s High Street.
She shared a photo of herself, which showed her eyes closed in mid-giggle, with the caption: “If my wrinkles are from laughing, I’m down with it.
“Please remember to have a laugh today! And actually every day.”
Last month she was voted out of Strictly before hitting back at reports that she’d had a “tantrum” backstage and threatened to quit when faced with the prospect of a much-dreaded dance-off.
She staunchly denied the claims on Twitter, reassuring fans: “I am a professional dancer on a TV show doing my job which I care passionately about.
“I’m not quitting, I’ve not had a tantrum. I love the show and shall keep dancing!”
No doubt Katya’s grandmother, who shares her first name, will be cheering her on.
