The British star portrays a dreamy drama student, who immediately grabs the attention of lead character Ritchie Tozer (played by Olly Alexander).

The five-part programme follows the story of the 1980s, the story of AIDS and charts the joy and heartbreak of a group of friends

Nathaniel said he had “a whale of a time” during the sexier moments, and the whole project was “incredible”.

However, the stage star did suffer a very awkward moment when he realised who his intimacy coordinator was.

“I think there were nerves in the sex scenes,” he commented.

Nathaniel continued: “Challenging? I’m not going to lie, I had a whale of a time.

“I know people are probably going to talk about this a lot. But the filming of it was the most incredible experience.”

He said he felt “so lucky” this was his first television job and he cares “so much” about those he worked with for four months.

Nathaniel went on to reveal how he got a blast from the past when it came to expert advice.

He recalled: “I think the most awkward thing was that one of the intimacy coordinators was a very old friend of mine.

“I turned up to set one day and I was like, ‘David, what are you doing?!'”

The former primary school employee also discussed what he hopes people will take away from It’s a Sin and the AIDS crisis.

During the chat with Digital Spy, he remarked: “We’re going through a very interesting time at the moment, but the differences are so stark.

“It’s not just about the AIDS crisis in the ‘80s. It’s about a group of people who fight.”

Nathaniel added: “… I think being able to turn around and say, ‘They were brave. They fought. They loved. They tried’ – I would really like that.”

He is appearing alongside Lydia West, Callum Scott Howells, Omari Douglas, Keeley Hawes, Stephen Fry, Neil Patrick Harris, Tracy Ann Oberman and Shaun Dooley, as well as Olly.

It’s A Sin is written by Russell T, Davies, who was also behind Queer As Folk, A Very English Scandal, Years and Years, and Doctor Who.

It begins in 1981, as Ritchie, Roscoe Babatunde (Douglas) and Colin Morris-Jones (Scott Howells) begin a new life in London.

Nathaniel is a newcomer to the small screen, after landing theatre credits in Shakespeare in the Garden’s production of Romeo and Juliet.

He studied at the East 15 Acting School in Essex, and previously worked with special needs and primary school children.
