ITV Daytime branded ‘cut-throat and ruthless’ by Loose Women’s Carol McGiffin

Holly Willoughby's This Morning statement

Carol McGiffin, 63, who left Loose Women earlier this year after clashing with ITV bosses, has claimed that ITV Daytime can be “quite unpleasant”.

The broadcaster’s comments come after the controversy at ITV’s This Morning, following one of its most high-profile presenter’s latest scandal.

Last month Phillip Schofield, 61, stepped down from his role on This Morning after over 20 years on the show following reports of a fallout between himself and co-host Holly Willoughby, 42.

Days afterwards, Phillip departed ITV completely after he confessed to having an affair with a much younger colleague a number of years ago while still married to his wife Stephanie Lowe.

The presenter issued a heartfelt apology to those he had lied to about the affair, describing his actions as “unwise, but not illegal”. Read Phillip’s full statement here

ITV also released a statement saying they felt “deeply disappointed” and “badly let down” by Phillip, announcing they would also be launching an investigation.

Carol, who also appeared in the twelfth series of Celebrity Big Brother, has since described the work environment at ITV Daytime as “cut-throat and ruthless”.

After recently branding Phillip “fake”, she also suggested there was a “dysfunctional” set-up behind the scenes amid ongoing accusations of toxicity at ITV.

In her column for Best magazine, Carol wrote: “They go on about the ‘ITV Daytime Family’ being cosy best mates, all caring and kind, but in my opinion, it’s about as dysfunctional as they come.

“It’s cut-throat, competitive and ruthless, and can be quite unpleasant, and as soon as your face doesn’t fit anymore, or you disagree with their narrative, you’re out the door.”

Express.co.uk has contacted ITV for comment.

Carol previously spoke about her experiences working with Phillip when she was interviewed by GB news presenter Dan Wooton, she said he “wasn’t very nice, to be honest”.

“He treated me as though it’s like ‘oh another Loose Woman with another book’ and I kind of get that but it was just like he was so not interested that it was a struggle,” she said.

“I was giggling and laughing actually because I couldn’t believe he was being so bl***y rude.”

Following Phillip’s bombshell affair admission, CEO of YMU Group Mary Bekhait said: “Honesty and integrity are core values for YMU’s whole business, defining everything we do.

“Talent management is a relationship based entirely on trust. This week, we have learned important new information about our client Phillip Schofield.

“These facts contradicted what Phillip had previously told YMU, as well as the external advisors we had brought in to support him.

“As a result, on Thursday we agreed to part company with Phillip, with immediate effect.”

An ITV spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “We are deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield.

“The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust. Phillip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.

“We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated.”
