Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, 60, has claimed that his two co-hosts James May, 58 and Richard Hammond, 51, didn’t share his love of interacting with a live studio audience, while filming The Grand Tour. Despite confessing that he will miss “bouncing off” a crowd, the television star said that the break has made way for more opportunities to film abroad. The motoring trio are expected to return to screens soon, but there is no release date for The Grand Tour as of yet.

I love interacting, I don’t think James and Richard enjoyed it very much

Speaking in a video on his YouTube platform DriveTribe, the car expert made some surprising claims about his co-presenters.

When asked whether he will miss doing “studio bits” for The Grand Tour, the host was quick to say he would – but didn’t say the same for James and Richard.

Jeremy commented: “I will miss the studio enormously.

“I love interacting, I don’t think James and Richard enjoyed it very much, but I used to love having a studio audience that you could bounce off. That you could play with.”

Jeremy revealed that his background hosting a chat show developed his love for interacting with a live audience.

He said: “They could say something and you had to think of something quickly to say back.

“I used to do a chat show years ago and I developed a love for studio shows back then.”

However, despite not being in a studio, the presenter admitted that the trio were now free to film more travelling segments for their show.

Jeremy continued: “I will miss having that but it does free us up to do a lot more travelling stuff, which is I know what viewers like.”

The motoring expert joked: “So, you know, Richard can do ‘Britain’s heaviest paving stone’ and James can do ‘the history of knitting machines’, and that will be great.”

The former Top Gear presenter also divulged his biggest motoring regret.

He said: “The worst car purchasing decision I ever made wasn’t a car purchasing decision at all.

“I don’t think I’ve ever bought a car I didn’t like.”

He continued: “But I sold a BMW 3 litre CSL for next to nothing, I think £3,000.

“And that was idiotic, absolutely idiotic.”

It was announced last year that the fourth series of the hit show would focus on road trip adventures, rather than the live studio element.

Addressing the change, Jeremy became emotional as he said goodbye to the audience.

He said: “The show, as you know, it is ending,” he said.

“The audience, the track, but, who would like to see us doing more big adventures, road trips, specials?

“So whilst it’s not goodbye from us, it is goodbye from the tent. Anyone want to buy a tent?”
