Jerry Springer’s bittersweet tombstone request in lead up to death

Jerry Springer proved he had a sense of humour when he revealed the final words he wanted etched on his tombstone in the years leading up to his death.

Jerry – best known for his legendary hosting role on the gripping Jerry Springer show – once revealed he wanted his tombstone to read: “I won’t be right back.”

The TV star, who described his show as a “circus” with no “redeeming social value”, made the jokey comment in a previous interview with Entertainment Tonight.

His words are all the more poignant following today’s news that he has died at the age of 79, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

The former politician, who briefly served as Mayor of Cincinnati, attempted to counsel troubled guests on his show, signing off every episode with his trademark line: “Take care of yourselves – and each other.”
