Joan Collins boasts ageless appearance as she honours sister Jackie

Joan Collins was clutching a copy of one of much-loved late sister Jackie Collins’ books in a new snap captured inside a plane.

The actress is due to turn 90 next month, but she looked a tiny fraction of her real age in the photo she shared with her 309,000 Instagram devotees.

Fans marvelled at her extraordinarily youthful appearance as they saw her holding “number one bestseller” American Star, written by her sister.

A romance novelist whose work rivalled the famous Mills and Boon love stories, Jackie sold more than 500 million copies across 32 books during her life.

Sadly, the California-based author, who regularly topped the New York Times bestseller lists, died in September 2015 – just two weeks before her 78th birthday.

The star novelist had been battling breast cancer, but didn’t tell Joan for nearly six years over fears that the news would devastate her.

She waited until the very end, two weeks before her death, to break the news to her Hollywood actress sister, who is also an acclaimed author.

Despite knowing her condition was terminal for several years beforehand, she told People magazine: “I didn’t want to burden her with it.

“She’s very positive and very social but I’m not sure how strong she is.”

The pair then met up for an emotional dinner at the Wolseley in Mayfair, one of the last times they ever saw each other.

Following her death, a spokesperson for her family declared her “a true inspiration, a trail blazer for women in fiction and a creative force” to be reckoned with.

Jackie’s last words included a vow that, like Frank Sinatra, she had lived her life on her own terms – “my way”.

As Joan, who was dressed to impress on the plane over the weekend with a zebra-print blouse and wide-brimmed straw hat, posed for the camera, she advised in the caption that “any one” of her sister’s books made for the “best plane-reading”.

One Instagrammer, @sarah_mason_80, agreed: “No beach holiday [is] complete without a Jackie Collins novel!”

Meanwhile, @bondgirl_forever praised that Joan was “fiercely beautiful beyond words”, adding: “Happy holidays Ms Collins and also happy reading!”
