Jodie Comer clutches her BAFTA as she jumps into a cab after night of celebrations

Jodie Comer had the night of her life on Sunday as she took home the Leading Actress gong at the BAFTA TV Awards in London.

The 29-year-old actress beat the likes of Mare of Easttown star Kate Winslet and It’s a Sin’s Lydia West to win for her role in the Channel 4 Covid-set drama Help.

Speaking to reporters ahead of accepting her award, the actress had admitted she was "very nervous" about the possibility of taking to the stage to receive a BAFTA.

In her acceptance speech, Jodie paid tribute to Channel 4 for "believing in the script from the very beginning" before going onto thank the carers who helped those involved in the show with their research, saying they were "incredibly gracious" with their time.

She also made a special mention to co-star Stephen Graham and writer Jack Thorne for their "integrity" and "passion".

Jodie explained that the pair had completely changed her view and priorities in the work she wanted to do going forward.

Following her triumphant night, she was pictured in the early hours making a glamourous exit from a celeb-packed after party.

Wearing a bold low-cut black dress, she could be seen clutching her award to her waist as she hunted for a lift home.

Jodie's co-star Stephen Graham also seemed to have had a night to remember as he left the after party with a huge grin on his face and flashed a thumbs up to the cameras.

During her career, Stephen has opened up his on life off-screen including facing racism and mental health issues.

But Sunday night was all about celebrations for the Scouse actor, as another of his shows, BBC prison drama Time, was awarded the gong for Best Mini Series earlier in the night, beating shows including It’s A Sin and Landscapers.

In his acceptance speech, Stephen said: "You know when people say ‘We weren’t expecting this’, on my ma’s life, we really weren’t expecting this."

He continued to praise the "phenomenal cast of young working class men who were absolutely outstanding, every single one of them."

Stephen's Time co-star Sean Bean picked up Best Leading Actor but wasn't in attendance at the ceremony. The show’s producer Simon Maloney was able to pick up the award on his behalf.

Reading out a pre-prepared letter from the actor Simon explained that Sean was ‘overwhelmed’ by the award, also praising his co-stars.

Sean said in his letter: "My fellow cast members, especially the incredible Stephen Graham, were an inspiration to me. Without whose passion and commitment I would not be receiving this award tonight."
