Jonnie Irwin hailed an ‘amazing dad’ as he shares heartwarming family photos

Jonnie Irwin hints at return to work sharing ‘behind the scenes’ clip

Jonnie Irwin has vowed that he’s “living with cancer, not dying from it”, and he certainly lived up to that attitude when the courageous and ever-smiling star enjoyed a family day out in Newcastle on Monday.

The former A Place in the Sun presenter, now 49, could be spotted riding a cargo bike down the road with his three young sons as they relished the summer weather.

“I’m obviously a lot weaker these days and would never be strong enough to cart these ankle biters around,” he joked to his 184,000 followers.

However, with a new Babboe Cargo Bike, which gives him “electric power assistance”, he was delighted to explain that he can now go “pretty much anywhere”.

Son Rex, plus twins Rafa and Cormac, all huddled into the passenger section, while Jonnie perched himself on the bike, feet on pedals, and prepared to speed along.

He had previously vowed not to tell the boys about his condition, to avoid upsetting them – and all three look blissfully unaware of his struggles in the happy family snap.

“The boys love it and it’s made the nursery run fun ( if I’m up in time),” he continued in his Instagram caption.

He added: “It’s probably cut our car use by about 50% so obviously much greener so hopefully making up for some of the naughty motors in my past. #gamechanger.”

His TV pal Lucy Alexander, best known for roles on shows like Homes Under The Hammer, was quick to praise his biking snap, marvelling: “Jonnie, this is so cool!”

@kensallyclare chimed in: “Jonnie, your strength and courage are to be admired, it’s so lovely to see you making such beautiful memories for your gorgeous children. God bless you!”

@susiejonespowell echoed: “Wow, what an inspiration! I’m sitting in bed feeling sorry for myself with my heart/lung issues but you’ve made me rethink my lethargy this morning! Just amazing! God bless you Jonnie.”

@chrissie_lindup agreed: “What wonderful memories you are making, this is something they will tell their children!”

Jonnie also shared a snap of himself and the kids on the front seat of the Metro “riding with uncle”.

Meanwhile, he’s put his health worries on the back burner so that he can focus on encouraging his kids’ development.

“I’ve started to tell Rex in private conversations, ‘You can do anything’,” he explained to Hello! magazine, adding that his eldest comes back from nursery “knowing more French than I do”.

He also shared his ambitions for the trio, revealing: “I want them to have the confidence of a public school boy, but also be streetwise lads.”

With Jonnie’s nurture and loving care, it looks like the boys are thriving – and his 40-year-old wife Jess is enjoying making memories with her beau during quality time too.
