Julia Bradbury emotional in tearful video of moment she was told she needed mastectomy

Julia Bradbury has shared an emotional video of the heartbreaking moment she was told she needed a mastectomy.

Julia, 51, announced in September last year thatshe’d been diagnosed with breast cancerand underwent surgery a month later.

Since then, she has been bravely documenting her cancer journey on social media for her thousands of followers to see.

In a recent post, Julia posted a video of herself welling up with tears she after was told she needed a mastectomy.

Alongside the clip, she wrote: “This is the moment I found out I had to have a mastectomy. Utter shock, sadness & fear. I've made a documentary for @itv about my #breastcancer experience to spread awareness, not just about cancer, but the impact a diagnosis has on a person & their family & friends.

She continued: "My story continues & I'm so grateful for all the positives so far, but unless you've been here I think it's very hard to understand the impact.

“Yes, survival rates are improving, but the treatments are brutal: Having breasts amputated, chemotherapy, long term drugs that make you feel sick & fatigued… These can all save or prolong your life – but the emotional & physical toll is huge.

“I will say to anyone who's just been diagnosed & told a mastectomy is part of their treatment, I felt utterly bewildered before my op, but the relief post-op was huge. I think not fully understanding what this means is a key part of the fear.”

Julia went on to encourage people to “check yourself”, writing: “I discovered a lump but had two mammograms that didn't reveal my lump as cancerous due to my dense breasts. Be body aware & trust your instincts.”

She also thanked people for their support, and promised to let them know when her ITV documentary is going to air.

Julia gave This Morning viewers a health updateback in February, and said that her healing was “going well” after surgery.

"It's your first day back at work following your treatment for breast cancer, how are you feeling and how are you?" host Alison Hammond asked at the time.

Julia replied: “Yes, well first of all I want to say thanks to the whole This Morning team for checking in with me regularly to check how I'm doing. It is lovely to be back and you've all been sending me little messages saying, 'Are you ready? Are you ready?'

"And today I was ready because it's a beautiful morning in the forest and I wanted to help give away these trees."

Julia went on to share that her doctor gave her the go ahead to appear on telly as she said: "The doctor said, 'Yes, it's alright,' I'm recovering, I had a mastectomy a couple of months ago."

"I've been doing lots of physio, lots of treatment, my healing is going very well thank you,” she added.
