Kim Kardashian had tongues wagging for her Met Gala outfit, with the star opting to cover her body and whole face with a Balenciaga body suit.

The look sparked plenty of comments – with some fans comparing the star to a Dementor from Harry Potter – but Kim has now had her say on the outfit choice and revealed just how much she could actually see with her whole face covered up.

Sharing a photo of herself and sister Kendall Jenner that went viral after the event, Kim wrote on Instagram: "Kendall was calling my name and I couldn't see who it was but I saw the outline of her sparkly dress," followed by a crying emoji.

Kim also reshared a post that talked about her outfit and outlined the hypocrisy of criticism levelled at her. In the post, two pictures of Kim in her Met Gala look were shared along with the comment: "For someone who is always criticized for being overly sexual, Kim showed she can cover every square inch of skin and still find a way to be criticized and ridiculed. THAT is American culture."

According to a source at TMZ, it was Kanye West that “gave Kim the courage to push the envelope with creativity and people's imagination through art.”

They also said that Kanye had introduced Kim to Demna Gvasalia, the designer of the outfit and creative director of Balenciaga – and the person who posed with Kim at the event.

Kim had surprised fans before the Met Gala as she donned a similar black head to toe outfit for New York Fashion Week.

Still, fans were less than impressed as some asked: “No bc who actually let Kim Kardashian leave her house like this”.

A final tweet supported: “Kim Kardashian certainly knows how to get people talking about her…”

The star's full face of make up beneath her Met Gala black mask has also been revealed.

The only part of her that was actually visible was her long raven hair, which was styled into a ponytail and reached down to the floor.

However, while the public weren't able to see her face at the star-studded event, her make up artist Mario Dedivanovic shared several photos of her flawless look on his Instagram feed.

In one snap, Mario can be seen applying La Mer products on Kim's face as she sits looking down at the floor while dressed in a simple black gown.

In the caption, he wrote: "Prepping @kimkardashian’s skin for the #Met Gala tonight with #cremedelamer #LookofLaMer #MakeupbyMario #lamerpartner," with a stars emoji.

The second picture sees Kim sitting in a high chair in her black ensemble as she looks directly at the camera with a full face of make up, including a smokey brown eyeshadow, black eyeliner, bronzer and a nude lip.

"Behind the mask [wink emoji] @kimkardashian #Met Gala", Mario captioned the snap before revealing Chris Appleton styled her hair while her skincare was done by La Mer.
