Kourtney Kardashian slammed for ‘insensitive’ post during Hawaiian wildfires

Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian Floats On Inflatable

Kourtney Kardashian’s most recent social media post about her break in Montecito, California, with her husband, Travis Barker has been criticised as “insensitive” in light of the wildfires raging through the Hawaiian island of Maui.

The pregnant 44-year-old took to Instagram to share details of the trip with her 224 million followers, but her caption caused controversy in the comments.

After posting a series of images of her vacation including a selfie and many beside the beach, she captioned it: “The ocean calms the fire in me.”

However, many of her followers felt that this was in bad taste at the moment.

Their reaction followed horror scenes from Maui showing various people jumping into the ocean to avoid the scorching bush fires that broke out on Tuesday on the resort island.

One follower commented: “Maybe not the best time to say the ocean calms the fire – when people in Hawaii were forced into the ocean because of a fire.”

They weren’t alone in this sentiment as another wrote: “So insensitive to the people on Maui”.

A third penned: “Except when you’re forced to jump into the ocean because you and your car have been engulfed in flames as you try to escape the fire that’s burning down your home.

“I know you’re just a celebrity and you won’t even respond to this, but my entire town just burnt to the ground, and it’s like the people who have the ability to help just pretend not to know what’s going on. #lāhainā.”

Another follower chided: “I wonder if you all have thought about the people of Maui? You seem very insensitive. Do we really care about your baby bumb when the people of Maui are suffering? Really??” (sic)

Elsewhere, a social media user added: “Terrible timing for a terrible caption.”

Kourtney later took to her stories to share a link to a Maui fires fundraiser.

The President of the United States Joe Biden has declared the wildfires a major disaster and deployed funding to aid state and local recovery efforts.
