It’s the show that’s had us gripped, as newlywed strangers navigate their way through married life – with a few booze-fuelled dinner parties and commitment ceremonies thrown into the mix.
But Married At First Sight UK’s dating expert Paul C Brunson has told new there’s a whole lot more drama to come, including a wife swap!
“All I can say is that it was honestly the most wild swap,” teases the 48-year-old. “So much so that it was a challenge for myself, Charlene [Douglas] and Mel [Schilling].
"We debated it for a long time. We had even stopped filming before the scene because we were still debating it out, so the scene was delayed because we were discussing letting them carry on [in the process].”
Paul, who also stars as an advisor on Celebs Go Dating, continues, “This is the most explosive series yet. Every dinner party will keep you glued and have you on the edge on the seat.”
So dramatic was the show that Paul admits he increased the number of times he saw his therapist during filming.
“I go to therapy and Charlene does as well and I increased my visits this series,” says Paul.
“Not necessarily because it was explosive, but if you are counselling someone, if you are not being counselled it’s easy to project challenges that you’re having onto other people.”
He continues, “Another reason is these commitment ceremonies were very intense. The most intense I’ve seen.
"I think the reason for that is I believe this is the most diverse cast I’ve ever seen, and it’s not about sexuality or ethnicity, it’s personalities, values, everything. There are more challenges and that requires more of us as experts.”
One couple who presented quite the challenge were Whitney Hughes and Duka Cav, with legal personal assistant Whitney being branded the “worst bride ever” on social media.
“There is a way of giving an opinion without being unkind,” says Paul of how Whitney has behaved on the show.
“We end up discussing what kindness means on the show. There’s an episode where I make thoughts [on Whitney] clear, so how I feel might be evident.”
And as for whether or not Chanita Stephenson and Jordan Emmett-Connelly will be the next Adam Aveling and Tayah Victoria, who are engaged and currently expecting their first child together, Paul says the couple’s biggest challenge will be being the strongest pair.
“No one will be Tayah and Adam and no one will be Matt Jameson and Dan McKee,” Paul tells us.
“Each couple has their own journey. There’s obviously a bit of a hierarchy with who is the strongest couple and who is the weakest, and they’re one of the strongest, but their challenge is how do they cope with being the strongest and the pressure that comes with that.”
