Mark Eden dead: Coronation Street star who played Alan Bradley dies age 92

Coronation Streetactor Mark Eden has sadly died, his agent has confirmed.

The legendary soap actor passed away today, 1 January, age 92.

While the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, he had been suffering with Alzheimer's disease for ‘some time’.

Mark played the role of Alan Bradley on Coronation Street for eight years, between 1981 and 1989.

His agent confirmed the sad news in a statement, which read: "We are very sad to announce the death of actor Mark Eden. He died peacefully, in hospital, earlier today, 1st Jan 2021."

Mark had been living with Alzheimer’s disease for some time, and was hospitalised in November.

He agent has requested privacy at this time.

He is survived by wife Sue Nicholls, 77, who stars as Audrey Roberts on the ITV serial drama, and children Polly, stepson Saul and granddaughter Emma.

Mark’s showbiz career started in 1958, when he had a minor role in Quatermass and the Pit, before going on the star in the TV shows The Avengers and Doctor Who.

The actor also played roles on the big screen landing parts in films such as Dr Zhivago.

However, it was his turn on the cobbles that earned him a place in soap history forever.

Mark’s exit from the show marked once of the soap’s most famous storylines – the Weatherfield tram crash.

The actor later paid homage to the moment, unveiling a plaque at the tram stop where the scene was filmed.

It was also on the set of Corrie where he met his wife third Sue who he married in 1993.

Mark wrote about his life in his 2010 autobiography, Who's Going To Look At You?, and will be remembered fondly by soap fans.
