Martine McCutcheon has always been refreshingly honest about her struggles to conceive children amid her health battle with ME.
And so when we caught up with the 46 year old Ex- EastEnders star, who shares eight year old son Rafferty with husband Jack McManus, she revealed that her beloved child was a "miracle"
Martine told OK! : “The top doctors were absolutely amazing but said, ‘You can’t have children. Your immune system and disease thinks it’s got to fight everything off and that includes, sadly, babies. So, we have no idea how you managed to keep Rafferty.’ To this day they don’t know how I had him.
"I only speak about this publicly as so many women struggle with fertility in this day and age and I want them to know they are not alone."
The actress thrives on being a mum and gives an insight into the joys of motherhood during our exclusive interview, days after renewing her vows to husband of 10 years, Jack.
Speaking of her son, she told us: “He’s cheeky, he’s sensitive and he’s confident. He’s a contradiction – he’s very like me actually. On the outside he’s very bubbly and confident and goes for it, but he also gets nervous as well. He’s complex like his mum."
“I like to nurture him, build his confidence and make him believe he can go for whatever he wants to go for in life. Most of all to make sure his childhood is fun. I’m his friend, his mum and bad cop – but I can be good cop too! When Jack’s holding hands with Rafferty, walking along and they’ve both got their curly hair it’s literally like he has a mini-me beside him and it does make me chuckle.”
Martine and Jack celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary in the best way – renewing their vows.
The couple held the intimate event at the Beaverbrook hotel, with just one VIP guest in attendance – their beloved son Rafferty.
“It was probably the most relaxed thing but wonderful thing we’ve ever done,” Martine, 46, told us during our exclusive interview with the smitten couple.
“It was in the most beautiful setting and it was the right combination of casual and elegance. The key thing for us was that it was a true celebration of our love, our relationship and our endurance as husband and wife and parents.
"It was important for us that it was intimate, because a lot of our celebrations have been shared with loved ones and friends. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve loved doing that, but this time it was just purely for us.”
