Matt James posts first photo with Rachael Kirkconnell since getting back together

“The Bachelor” star Matt James and last season’s winner Rachael Kirkconnell are making their recoupling Instagram official.

Both met during the historic 25th season of the ABC dating show, with James as the franchise’s first Black Bachelor. The love story devolved into controversy after Kirkconnell’s previous racist behavior came to light and backlash swirled. Kirkconnell, who eventually received the final rose in March’s season finale, apologized and the couple appeared to be broken up at the “After the Final Rose” post-finale special.

James confirmed they were dating again earlier this month in an interview with Wall Street Journal Magazine, and on Thursday he solidified the news on social media, posting their first photo together since reuniting.

“Our goal is (and always has been) to provide access to resources, individuals, & opportunities so that our students can make informed decisions for themselves and their families,” James wrote.

Emmanuel Acho, who served as the interim host for the franchise’s “After the Final Rose” special after veteran host Chris Harrison stepped aside following backlash for defending Kirkconnell, commented on James’ post.

“Proud of y’all,” Acho wrote.

‘It’s unfair to leave people’: ‘Bachelor’ Matt James explains why he’s back with ex Rachael Kirkconnell

During the live special in March, James said that he didn’t think “anybody is irredeemable,” but thought there was a “lot of work” Kirkconnell needed to do alone. However in May, he told WSJ Magazine said it was “unfair” to leave Kirkconnell to do the work on her own.

“It’s on people who care about being allies to do the work to be truly antiracist and I think it’s unfair to leave people without the ability to unlearn and be better,” James said. “We can have critical conversations about being in this relationship and what I need in a partner — especially if that woman isn’t Black — to understand what comes with me and my life and being Black.”
