Matthew Wright appeared to make a dig at Rochelle Humes as he appeared on This Morning on Monday 4 January.

Some viewers thought former The Wright Stuff presenter Matthew, 55, took aim at former The Saturdays singer Rochelle, 31, who stood in for Holly Willoughby, as he revealed his fears for his family as he suspects they have coronavirus.

Matthew shared his frustrations over the different rules and restrictions as Covid-19 cases continue to rise across the UK.

As he appeared via video link from his home, he explained to Rochelle, Phillip and Julia Hartley-Brewer, who also appeared via video link, how his wife Amelia and two year old daughter Cassady has been poorly with coronavirus symptoms.

He said: “Happy New Year everybody. I'd like to start off by declaring we suspect my whole family has the virus.

“We are waiting for test results to come back at the moment.”

Phillip, 58, then asked if Matthew and his family were OK to which he said his wife Amelia has had it “really tough” and shared fears for his daughter.

He said: “Well the idea that little children don't suffer the Covid symptoms badly. I can put that to one side.

“Amelia has had it really tough but Cassie also been coughing through the night, coughing up phlegm and making herself sick from coughing during the night.

“It has been pretty grim and I'm trying not to panic, trying not to call an ambulance knowing the hospitals are going to be overcrowded.

“We are just trying to keep a cool head on things and push on through it.”

The discussion later turned to how effective lockdowns are, to which Matthew appeared to make a dig at Rochelle following her holiday to Dubai.

He said: “Except we’re not in lockdown. Schools are open, people are going to work, TV presenters going on holiday abroad.”

Rochelle’s unimpressed expression appeared to show she was less than impressed by Matthew’s remark as she laughed.

Meanwhile, Julia defended herself as she also recently returned from a trip abroad. She said: “I went on holiday abroad, I’ve just come back from Antigua, completely legally because we were in Tier 3 when we went.”

Rochelle then added: “Same” as Phillip moved the conversation along.

And Rochelle and Julie weren’t the only ones who picked up on the apparent dig as viewers shared their opinions on Twitter.

One wrote: “Rochelle's face when Matthew Wright was calling people out for going away for Christmas after her holiday to Dubai”.

Another added: “Think Mathew Wright just unintentionally called out Rochelle for heading off to Dubai, when he was taking a swipe at JHB, awkward”.

While a third said: “I am presuming rochelle didn't have to isolate after her holiday to Dubai for Christmas or has had a covid test #ThisMorning”.
