McFly: ‘We’re going to make a version of S Club Juniors with our kids’

McFly have revealed their genius plan to ensure the band will live on forever: enlisting their children to form their own band. Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd, Danny Jones and Dougie Poynter have come a long way since they first shot to fame in 2003, and three of them – Tom, Harry and Danny – have since gone on to embrace family life as doting dads.

Talking exclusively with OK! this week, the hitmakers revealed their hope to mirror the likes of S Club Juniors by grouping their children together as a future mini-McFly. Eldest band member Tom shares three sons with his wife Giovanna – Buzz, Max and Buddy. While Harry is dad to Lola, seven, Kit, five, and Lockie, almost two. Danny has one son, five-year-old Cooper.

"Dougie is really close with all of our kids too, so it's nice," shared Harry during our chat. "I can’t wait for the day that Buzz, Kit and Buddy join us on stage and play a song. Danny’s son Cooper is unsurprisingly showing vocal ability already, so, that’s a pretty good line-up."

"We’ve got a solid band there," jested Dougie. As Danny added of his little one, "Cooper might need more convincing. He’s obsessed with racing so it could be F1 for him."

Harry joked that it would be a 'step up' from Abba Voyage – a virtual concert residency by the Swedish pop group which uses visual avatars.

"We won't need holograms, we've got the kids to keep it going! Tom's sons look pretty like him as well so no one will notice," laughed the singer.

The band first formed in 2003, going strong until a three-year hiatus in 2016. Now, the boys are back stronger than ever and are heading on tour later this year after a string of festival appearances.

As we joke that having pop star dads can't be a bad thing around the playground, Tom admitted that while his kids think Dougie, Danny and Harry are 'super cool', he's not so sure about himself.

While Dougie added: "Well, I was speaking to Buddy the other day and when I put on my stage outfit he looked at me and said, “Everyone is going to laugh at you.” That really knocked my confidence because kids don’t lie.

"My son Kit thinks you’re the coolest, Tom, if that’s any consolation. He and my daughter Lola will definitely come to some shows. They love it," explained Harry.

Still embracing the joys of performing live, McFly have recently teamed up with Pizza Express for their Summer Sessions campaign, taking to their Soho restaurant recently for a live gig.

"We love performing live more than anything and the gig felt really intimate. There's something about people sitting around, with candles at their tables and pizza, just watching us sing. It felt quite magical," recalled Harry.

McFly partnered with Pizza Express to launch Live Summer Sessions, taking place at locations across the UK until 20 August. See pizzaexpress.com/live-summer-sessions
