Following bullying claims made against her by Royal staff, Meghan Markle's childhood sweetheart Joshua Silverstein has jumped to her defence.

The Los Angeles based actor told Us Weekly his views on the allegations and said the Duchess of Sussex is doing what she can to be happy.

He told the publication: "I see her doing whatever it is she feels she should do in order to be happy and coexist within a system that has probably not been very welcoming to who she is and where she comes from.

"When you find women of color – particularly black women – standing up for themselves and speaking out and speaking against what they feel [is] disrespect or oppression, often times of whiteness tends to classify that in negative ways because they don't want that to happen.

"It's almost like people are expected to know their place and whenever they don't fall in line with that, then people say it's a problem," Joshua concluded.

Meghan and Joshua met at a summer camp when they were 13 years old and went on to have a summer romance which fizzled out shortly after.

The former actress, 39, was hit with allegations that she "drove two personal assistants out of the household" during her time at Kensington Palace, according to claims by The Times.

The publication claims Harry and Meghan's former communications secretary Jason Knauf – who now works for Prince William and Kate Middleton – submitted allegations of "bullying" in October 2018, though it is understood these were not pursued.

A source alleged to The Times said that Prince Harry had "pleaded" with Jason not to pursue the bullying allegations before he raised the claims to Buckingham Palace HR in a bid to "protect the staff" that were "coming under pressure" from Meghan.

Since the allegations were made, a spokesperson for the couple has forcefully denied the claims.

They stated that Meghan is "saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.

"She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good."
