Meghan’s private secretary warned ‘Royals would find her hard to adjust to’

Meghan Markle has recalled how she felt when joining the Royal Family, and described herself as a “foreign organism”.

The second instalment of the bombshell docuseries titled Harry & Meghan dropped on Netflix today. In the first episode, mum-of-two Meghan discussed the advice she was given by her and Prince Harry’s private secretary, who had previously worked for the Queen for two decades.

“What she said to me was, it’s like this fish that’s swimming perfectly, powerful, it’s on the right current,” Meghan began. “Then one day this whole organism comes in. This foreign organism.”

The episode then shows several newspaper titles following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s engagement news.

Meghan went on: “Then the entire thing goes, ‘What is that? What is it doing here? It doesn’t look like us, it doesn’t move like us, we don’t like it. Get it off of us’.

“[Our private secretary] explained that they'll soon see that [the Firm] is stronger, faster and better with this organism as part of it. It will be hard for them at the beginning to trust this new thing, but then it’ll be amazing.”

“I was really hopeful that that was true,” she added.

In the latest instalments, Meghan also discusses the late Queen Elizabeth’s advice to her ahead of her nuptials to Harry, where she told the former Suits actress to try to reach out to her estranged father.

She said: "I reached out to her Majesty and said this is what's going on, what do you want me to do? I want to…Whatever advice you have.

"But ultimately it was suggested by the Queen and the Prince of Wales that I write my dad a letter and I had gone to great lengths to get that letter to my dad discreetly."

Meghan continued: "I can't put this letter in the mail with the return address being Kensington Palace and send it to Tom Markle and assume it's gonna get there. So I send it to my business manager in LA, I was like, 'He'll recognise that name’.

"Then I get the picture of the signature confirmation that it's been delivered, and it's not his signature. That's not my dad's handwriting. It just says 'Thomas’.”

Today’s Harry & Meghan episodes complete the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary series.
