Gardeners’ World presenter Monty Don, 65, took to Twitter this evening to inform his 230,000 followers that he and his team have been hard at work filming the BBC show despite the bank holiday weekend. Although many of Monty’s fans expressed their gratitude to the host for his dedication to the programme, one of his followers couldn’t resist aiming a jibe at him in response to his update.
Monty penned on the micro-blogging site: “Full days filming today for next week’s GW – the bank’s may be on holiday but we aren’t!”
One of the gardener’s fans then cheekily replied: “What do you want a medal?
“You get paid to potter about in the garden mate.
“Anyway I look forward to watching.”
Proving that he wasn’t fazed by the viewer’s swipe at his job, Monty hit back: “Will take that as a compliment – delighted that is how it comes across.”
Fans were quick to defend Monty following his response to the Twitter user’s criticism.
One person wrote: “You make so many of us happy Monty. Take no notice but your loveliness says everything.”
Another added: “How rude though?”
A third person commented: “Thanks for working on a holiday weekend to bring us your wonderful knowledge, lovely gardens, & peacefully relaxing vibes. Looking forward to seeing the episode next week.”
A fourth replied: “Time for a well deserved glass of something x.”
A fifth said: “Highlight of my week! Thank you.”
It comes after Monty responded to a viewer after they questioned why his wife, Sarah Don, and their children don’t ever “help” him out during episodes.

The horticulturalist explained that despite appearances, he is often the one who is assisting his family in the garden.
Monty shared the insight after he uploaded a photo of his colourful grass borders as the sun finally began to shine in the UK following weeks of rain last week.
He typed cheerily: “Love this awakening of the grass borders.”
In response, a fan wrote: “Do your wife and children help in the garden? Could we ever see them on Gardeners World?”
He replied: “I am the one helping them!”
Monty’s response proved to be popular with his fans, as it racked up over 200 likes.
The famous gardener has hosted Gardeners’ World since 2003 and is much loved by horticulturalists throughout the world.
Monty and Sarah married back in 1983 and have sons Adam and Tom. They also have a daughter Freya.
