Nadia Sawalha laughs as she struggles to pull her tights up

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha, 56, has been updating fans with her fitness progress as she tackles the ever popular lockdown Couch to 5k challenge, that has been hugely successful in getting Britons everywhere up and active throughout the lockdown periods. But during her morning exercise on Wednesday, she was left feeling slightly anxious after a fellow runner “breathed in her face”.

The reason I hated it was [because] somebody breathed straight in my face right at the beginning

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Nadia admitted that regardless of her worries, she was very proud of herself for getting a personal best for the amount of time she ran, even though her mind was cast back to the dreaded thought of coronavirus.

“I’ve just done my first run of week 4 of Couch to 5k,” she smiled, wheezing and clearly out of breath from the vigorous exercise.

“And that was 16 minutes!”

Walking quickly as she battled the elements, the presenter revealed she was barely able to run 60 seconds at the start of the challenge and seemed pretty pleased with herself for making incredible progress.

Explaining that the 16 minutes was made up of running for five minutes then walking for a couple before repeating the circuit, she admitted she wasn’t a fan.

“I’m not going to lie, I hated it!” she giggled but admitted she did feel “fresher and more awake”.

Nadia then went on to list a few of the reasons why she felt the way she did.

“The reason I hated it was [because] somebody breathed straight in my face right at the beginning,” she winced at the thought.

“I just got paranoid and started thinking about Covid.

“And the last think I wanted to be thinking about while running was Covid,” she said.

“So that was my first problem. Secondly, I didn’t have enough water today, so that made me tired and my legs were heavy.

“But I’m still really proud of myself for doing it!”

She concluded her video, with a smirk: “Even though I hated it.”

Her worries come after fellow ITV colleague Piers Morgan was bashed by viewers for his opinions on runners exercising on busy streets.

Earlier this week, the Good Morning Britain host revealed on-air he believes runners should be taking specific steps to help make others feel safer outside, branding them “unbelievably selfish” as they “spit” all over everyone in busy areas.

“I’d like people to stop running on busy streets and breathing heavily,” Piers shrugged on Monday’s program.

His co-star Susanna Reid added: “And spitting!” to which her outspoken co-star continued: “All over everyone they run past.

“I just think it’s unbelievably selfish. It’s like, ‘Go and run in a park, they’re all open.’”

Susanna chipped in to note: “Parks are very busy though…”

But Piers carried on: “Just stop running down the high street blustering over people, I just think it’s ridiculous.”

GMB continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
