BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty, 46, was hosting her show on Radio 5 Live where she made a saucy quip. It comes after the broadcaster discussed how Henry VIII had chosen his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves, by looking at a portrait of her.

The radio host was chatting to Franny Moyle, author of The King’s Painter, when they addressed the Tudors in detail.

“It was a long distance engagement,” Franny explained. “When [the marriage] was delayed he was infuriated.”

She explained how Henry turned up in disguise to meet his bride, adding: “It was at that moment he realised he’d made a terrible mistake, because the woman he met… he found really rather unattractive.”

Franny then addressed “relations” referring to the couple’s sexual relationship.

“So, did they have, er, relations?” Naga asked Franny of Henry’s inescapable marriage with Anne.

“No, they tried, it didn’t work. He found her so unattractive, he claimed, that he became impotent,” the historian explained.

Naga later joked that “touched up” Instagram selfies were not a new phenomenon in the internet era but were also a thing used in past centuries.

Addressing her colleague Nick Hatfield, she remarked: “You see, all these touched up selfies? They are nothing new!

“Not saying they’re not worth it though, by all means – they can come in useful, can’t they Nick?”

He agreed, before adding: “Yeah. Relations? Are you from the 19th century?”

“No!” Naga insisted. “Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky? ‘I did not have sexual relations with that woman.’ Relations! I was being polite!”

But it wasn’t long before the presenter was asked to call time on their discussion.

She announced: “I have a message from my producer – ‘Steady now’. He’s just messaged me.”

“You’ve got to be careful,” Nick warned her.

Naga chuckled: “Let’s go to the grown-up in the room now, Nick. You’ve got the news!”

Meanwhile, the presenter recently returned to her regular duties after a short absence.

After fans took to social media to try and work out where she was, they came across a few retweets from Naga herself, showing her golfing up north.

The Scottish golf course where she stayed, tweeted: “Great to see Naga Munchetty from the BBC playing on the Links today at Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club.

“Great player with a 7 handicap too.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
