Nick Knowles, 58, reportedly came under fire with BBC executives for his involvement in a Shreddies advert, where he plays a builder who helps a family with their home. According to The Sun, the presenter breached regulations as it appeared to mimic his DIY SOS role.

It’s now been said the BBC considered Nick’s popularity and charity work and have allowed him to continue filming DIY SOS.

Nick said: “It has my heart and working for the BBC for over 22 years is something I have never taken for granted.

“I will continue filming new episodes of DIY SOS over the coming months and will be back on your screens with the purple shirts next year.”

A joint statement from the BBC and Nick Knowles reads: “Both Nick and the BBC have resolved the issue recently reported relating to Nick’s commercial agreements and BBC guidelines.

“With the campaign still running, Nick will step back from the DIY SOS Children in Need special this year but will be back on our screens in 2022.”

The BBC added to Express.co.uk: “Nick is an important member of the BBC family and we are pleased that this matter is resolved.

“We will resume filming DIY SOS as soon as it’s safe to do so and Nick will be back on our screens in 2022.”

The DIY SOS veteran first shared the advert on his Twitter page in February.

Many of his 158,000 followers flocked to his post to share their thoughts.

One user wrote: “Think I need Nick ‘get it done’ Knowles for the rest of this week!! Can you help me out?! Lol great ad!”

A second commented: “Brilliant ad,” a third added: “Genius ad – loving it.”

The presenter has been fronting the popular BBC show since 1999.

Ahead of the update, a source claimed Nick was “in absolute torment about the whole situation because he loves the Beeb”.

“But they have very strict guidelines when it comes to their talent and advertising and he has already broken them by filming the ads.

“But Shreddies don’t want to pull the campaign.”

The BBC has told Express.co.uk: “Both the BBC and Nick are keen to resolve this matter and are working together to seek a solution.”

Away from the BBC, the presenter is taking part in upcoming Channel 5 shows Your Life On Your Lawn and Home Improvements.

After his new move was announced, he clarified that he has “no intention” of leaving DIY SOS.

“It’s not just a job for me, we are a family and it has my heart,” he told Daily Mail online.
