Amanda Owen, 47, and her husband Clive, 66, share nine children who they raise on the idyllic Ravenseat Farm. But the unusual size of Amanda’s family means there are some things they can’t do conventionally.

For that reason, Amanda has found a way to celebrate all her nine children’s birthdays with one big party.

Speaking on Sophie Ellis Bextor’s podcast, Spinning Plates, the Yorkshire shepherdess described the huge party as an “en masse” event.

She said:  “When the children are little, because I’ve got various ones that have birthdays in the summer, we would also have birthdays en masse.

“They tend to bunch up through the summer, so you’ll have to make out of that what you like.

“But basically, while they are little and they don’t know what day their birthday is, it makes absolute sense to just cram them all in.”

She continued: “Some people will be mortified and be like ‘oh but what about their special day!”

Amanda then spilled that birthdays are not the only celebration her brood all share at once.

The children also receive one visit from the tooth fairy each year.

Amanda explained: Things have got so sort of bad at our house that we have an accumulated en masse visit of the tooth fairy.

“We’re just like ‘put it under the pillow every night until the tooth fairy can actually be bothered to come to the house!’”

Amanda and Clive share Raven, 20, Reuben, 16, Miles, 15, Edith, 12, Violet, 10, Sidney, nine, Annas, seven, Clemmy, five, and Nancy, four.

Clive also has another two children from a previous marriage – Rosie and Robert.

Rosie and Robert run a nearby farm, Sandwath Farm, Kirkby Stephen, just 12 miles from their dad.

Rosie recently spoke out on her memories from Ravenseat Farm and the heartache of seeing her parents’ divorce.

She said: “Millions tune in to see this idyllic farm on the TV but they don’t know the heartache behind it.”

Rosie was three-years-old when her family moved to Ravenseat in 1989.

However, six years later, her parents decided to separate after 13 years together due to “falling out of love”.

Rosie recalls meeting Amanda during one of her weekend visits to her dad.

“She was sitting in the kitchen with my mother, talking. I can’t remember what they were talking about. I think my mother introduced me to her and I thought, ‘Wow, she’s beautiful’.

“She was quite pleasant, said hello and off she went. They weren’t arguing,” she added to the Sun.
