Peter Andre tried to show his witty side while on BBC Breakfast but unfortunately his joke fell flat as the presenters sat in silence after it.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 48, appeared on the show to discuss his role as Teen Angel and Vince Fontaine in an upcoming musical production of Grease.

The popular musical, which is set to tour the country this year, sees the former pop singer returning to his roots in the latest production.

Making reference to Greece’s current travel ban due to the global pandemic, the dad-of-three used the opportunity to throw in a joke.

Speaking to presenter Naga Munchetty, he said: “The funny thing is we’re talking about Grease and we can’t even fly there, which is interesting, so what an interesting time.

Noting the silence, Peter quickly tried to brush off the insult, adding: “I thought that was a bit of a Greek joke but no one actually laughed.”

Naga made light of the awkward situation and poked fun at it as she said: “Sorry, we’re just clearing away the tumbleweed for you.”

However, Peter was quick to move on from the awkward moment, as he continued to promote his latest endeavour.

He continued: “No, it’s going to be fantastic bringing that back to the stage and I think people want to get out to the theatre.

“The theatres have taken a massive hit as you can imagine, including all the people who work on lights, the sound, production, crew.

“There are so many people that are aching to get back on stage.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
