Piers Morgan, 55, has taken to Twitter this morning to show his appreciation for his mum Gabrielle while marking Mother’s Day. The presenter paid a heartfelt tribute to her just days after he announced he was leaving Good Morning Britain following controversy over his comments about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the ITV show.

Piers shared one of his baby photos for the occasion, which showed him being picked up by his smiling mum.

The black and white snap the outspoken journalist shared with his 7.8million followers appeared to have been taken at his christening, due to the traditional gown he was wearing.

Thanking his mum for her support during difficult times, Piers wrote: “Always there to pick me up when life gets a little tricky…

“Happy Mother’s Day to my fabulous mother.”

Twitter users took to the comments section of the tweet to share their thoughts on Piers’ words.

One person wrote: “Your mother is pretty. You’ve got that mischievous look on your face even at that age.”

Another added: “Everyone needs their mum no matter what age! Cherish her with all your heart, some of us can’t sadly x.”

A third person commented: “Happy Mother’s Day to Meghan, your nemesis!”

A fourth replied: “You’re at your best when you show your human side.”

It comes after Piers shared a lengthy post on Friday telling his followers he did lose his job after failing to apologise for his remarks about the Duchess of Sussex.

The latter and her husband Prince Harry hit the headlines following their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Piers has said he didn’t believe a word Meghan said as she opened up about her life in the Royal Family and how it impacted her mental health.

His comments sparked over 41,000 Ofcom complaints.

Speaking out on the situation on Instagram, Piers said: “It has been an extraordinary week for me, for Britain, for our monarchy and for our future.

“Those of you that know me well enough know that, despite my many faults, I’m always willing to stand my ground for the things that I think matter most.”

Reflecting on his career, he added: “My fervent opposition to the Iraq War led to my demise from the Daily Mirror.

“My outspoken views on the insanity of American gun laws led to the end of my time at CNN.

“And now I’ve lost my job at Good Morning Britain because I chose not to apologise for disbelieving Meghan Markle’s claims in her interview with Oprah Winfrey.”

Piers went on to claim he had become the “latest ‘victim’ of the cancel culture that is permeating our country, every minute, of every hour, of everyday”.

“Though of course, I consider myself to be neither a victim, nor actually cancelled,” he added.

“However, I do believe the defence of free speech and the right to express honestly held opinions, is the most important issue of my career, and the most important issue in British society.”
