Piers Morgan, 55, has taken the opportunity to thank Sharon Osbourne, 68, for standing by him after his comments about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prompted backlash.

Following the outrage caused by his remarks about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, Piers decided to quit his hosting role on Good Morning Britain.

In the aftermath of ITV’s announcement, Sharon took to Twitter and penned: “@piersmorgan I am with you. I stand by you.

“People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth.”

Piers has now responded to the former X Factor judge in a cryptic tweet about “fake friends”, which he shared with his 7.8million followers this evening.

The journalist wrote: “When stuff like this happens, true friends run towards you, fake friends run away.

“I love Sharon Osbourne because she always stays true to herself.

“She knew she would get abused by the woke brigade for tweeting this – but did it anyway because it what she believes.”
