‘A year ago Iain asked me to marry him and we had the most magical, perfect ceremony. We loved having it to ourselves.

Exciting times ahead: The TV presenter, 35, explained that lots of people had contacted them with ‘good intentions’ since their marriage was revealed and they announced her pregnancy

‘We had been planning the perfect celebration and I will forever be so thankful that’s what we got. We have never spoken publicly about our engagement or wedding.

‘Back at the time we never felt the need to say anything as it’s all such a personal experience. We also were too busy enjoying it!

Gushing: Laura said the couple ‘loved having it to ourselves’ as she talked about not speaking publicly about their marriage

It had previously been reported that Laura and Iain tied the knot in November at a small ceremony at Dublin’s City Hall.

They reportedly wed in front of 25 guests – the maximum allowed under Ireland’s level five rules at the time – with Laura’s half-brother Adam and Iain’s sister Kirsten as witnesses.

Shortly after their marriage was revealed, Laura shared the news of her pregnancy on Instagram.

Laura shared a photo of a Guns N’ Roses Sweet Child O’ Mine baby onesie and wrote: ‘So I’ve always tried to be protective over the personal side of my life.

Bringing in 2021! Laura and Iain made sure to welcome in the New Year in style with a dance party at home on Thursday night

‘A lot of things are just for me and my loved ones and we’ve chosen not to share publicly.

‘However I want to now share good news as it’s our news to share – and I’m gonna be honest it’s starting to look like my lock down beer belly is out of control.

‘Iain and I are expecting a baby early 2021. It’s been hard to keep such happy news quiet.

‘Especially the times when I’ve had to run out of live radio to get sick in a bin or my penchant for a bowl of mashed potato in the morning.’

Celebrations: The star was seen throwing some moves as she enjoyed the celebrations

Cheers! The couple also raised a glass to the end of 2020 and the exciting times ahead

Following their pregnancy announcement, Laura posed for an empowering shoot for Hunger magazine, for which she showed off her bump for the first time.

The presenter said she had spent ‘almost six months’ being conscious of her changing body before her pregnancy was announced.

Sharing the shoot images on Instagram, she wrote: ‘I’ve spent almost 6 months hiding or being conscious of my body (well to be honest I’ve spent over 30 years doing this).

‘But in particular as my body changed I have felt very protective of my baby bump.

‘I’ve seen all sorts of comments “oh Laura’s had a boob job”, “her legs are too skinny”, “has she put on weight?”, “she needs to eat more cake!”

Happy news: Laura confirmed her pregnancy in December with an adorable shot of a ‘Sweet Child Of Mine’ baby grow

Baby on the way: The Love Island presenter took to Instagram to reveal the happy news, joking that ‘it’s starting to look like my lockdown beer belly is out of control’

‘I want to say a massive thank you to Ryan and everyone at @hungermagazine for giving me the space to talk about my pregnancy on my terms and in my words.’

Laura discussed her road to motherhood and her pregnancy journey so far in the interview, where she said she believed things had fallen into place for her.

She said: ‘As a timing thing, it probably wasn’t something that we thought about, it was a nice surprise. So I’m due at the beginning of next year and I think things just fall into place.’

The star also revealed the couple had found out the sex of their baby very early on via a Harmony blood test, with Laura saying the check had given her peace of mind that her baby was healthy after suffering a tragic miscarriage in 2018.

She said: ‘For me it wasn’t about the sex, it was just about whether the baby was OK. You constantly have that fear. I think there are a lot of things that are important to keep to yourself.’
