Harry and Meghan’s sit down with Oprah Winfrey may not air until this evening in the UK, but talking points from the interview have already sparked debate since its airing in the US last night.

The couple, who announced they are expecting a baby sister for their one year old son Archie, sat down for a two hour tell-all chat with the respected chat show host.

During the talk, Meghan spoke candidly about her experience in becoming a royal. One revelation saw Meghan claim that “concerns” were discussed about her baby’s skin colour while she was pregnant with Archie.

Meghan explained the conversation happened between Harry and a member of the Royal Family, who the couple did not name.

The 39 year old said: "In those months when I was pregnant, we had in tandem the conversations of him not being given security or a title, and also concerns about how dark his skin might be when he's born.

"They didn't want him to be a prince or princess, not knowing what the gender would be, which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn't going to receive security."

Oprah, 67, enquired for more details, but Meghan refused to name the royal member who made the comments, saying it would be "very damaging to them."

Speaking to OK!, Royal expert and author of Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, Katie Nicholls said that Meghan’s comments have “opened up a race row in the country” and the palace is under pressure to address the claims.

Katie explained: “It was an extraordinary interview. The drama in the trailers left you wondering whether they'd held anything back. It was bombshell after bombshell. It has opened up a race row in the country.”

The expert claimed that the Queen will be “devastated” to hear the accusations surrounding race. Katie explained: “For the Queen to hear these accusations on any day but especially Commonwealth Day will be devastating.

"This day is so important to her and she is the proud head of state for many multi-racial realms. I do not believe the Queen is racist and looking at images of her and Prince Philip meeting Archie, that is the look of love. There is no racism.”

However, Katie said that the issues raised by the couple in the bombshell interview will need to be addressed by the palace.

Katie went on: “This does need to be a wake up call for the Royal Family. There is clearly an issue for a member of the Royal Family to have made such a comment on Archie's skin tone and that is shocking and unacceptable.

“I believe the palace are going to take some time to come up with a response but given the severity of the claims and the repercussions, it has to be addressed.”

Elsewhere in the interview that aired in the US, the soon-to-be mum-of-two admitted she felt suicidal during her time in the Royal family.

During the candid conversation, Meghan said she went to "the institution" for help over how she was feeling, but was denied help.

She admitted she felt "ashamed" to speak about her suicidal thoughts at the time but "knew that if she didn't say it she would do it."

The former actress claims she asked one of the "most senior" people if she could get any help but was told "it wouldn't be good for the institution."

She also added she "couldn't be left alone" during her pregnancy with first child Archie, revealing it was "a real and frightening constant thought" but she had her husband Harry, 36, to support her as he "cradled" her.

Meghan, who was defended by former Suits co-star Patrick J Adams, shared she spent an appearance at the Cirque du Soleil premiere in London in January 2019 "weeping" whenever the lights went down in the royal box.
