Prince Harry faces final nail in coffin if hes removed from role, source says

Prince Harry's possible removal as a Counsellor of State could be the "final nail in the coffin", a source has claimed.

By law, the Counsellors of State include the Sovereign's spouse and the next four people in the line of succession who are over the age of 21.

At the moment, Prince Harry, 37, his brother Prince William, 39, their father Prince Charles, 73, and his brother Prince Andrew, 61, are the four people who form the Counsellors of State.

Two or more of the Counsellors of State are appointed by Letter Patent to act in Her Majesty's place in the event that she is unable to undertake official duties on a temporary basis due to illness or absence abroad.

However, the Queen would still have final say over Commonwealth matters, the dissolving of Parliament, the creation of peers and appointing a Prime Minister.

Now, after talk that he could be removed, a source has claimed there would be "no going back" if Prince Harry no longer holds the role of Counsellor of State.

"Being removed, by parliament no less, as a Counsellor of State would really be the nail in Harry’s coffin of his former life as a frontline member of the royal family," a source told the Daily Mail.

They added: "If the Queen does take steps to have this situation remedied and Harry is axed, there really is no going back. All of these decisions – the military titles, the HRHs in abeyance – could theoretically be reversed. However, having parliament take formal action to remove them as Counsellors of State is in another league entirely."

However, there is some talk that he may not be removed at all and instead other members of the Royal Family could be added to the role of Counsellor of State.

According to Gertrude Daly, host of Gert's Royal podcast, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, could be added, which means Kate Middleton could be added earlier as well.

Royal expert Gertrude told the Daily Star: “If they did want to add someone to the Counsellors of State, what may be easier than removing Prince Andrew and Prince Harry, is to include the heir apparent’s spouse as a Counsellors of State.

“Since Duchess Camilla is already going to be added, during Prince Charles’s reign, it could make sense to add her now. This would also set a precedence so that Duchess Kate could be added during Prince Charles’ reign, as the then heir apparent’s spouse.”
