Prince Harry has described how his grandfatherPrince Philip went ‘quietly, peacefully and happily’ when he died.
The Duke of Sussex, speaking in the Harry & MeghanNetflix documentary, added he was “really happy” for how the Duke of Edinburgh passed away.
Harry, 38, also told of how coming back to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral was “hard” because he had to talk toKing CharlesandPrince William about the situation surrounding his and wifeMeghan Markle’s departure from seniorroyal life.
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of lateQueen Elizabeth II, died atWindsor Castle at the age of 99 in April 2021 – two months before his 100th birthday.
Harry, speaking during episode five of the Netflix documentary, said: “I was actually really happy for my grandfather. He went quietly. He went peacefully. He went happily.”
The interviewer on the show then asked the Duke of Sussex what it was like going back for the funeral.
Harry replied: “It was hard. Especially spending time, having chats with my brother and my father, who just, you know, were very much focused on the same misinterpretation of the whole situation.
“None of us really wanted to have to talk about it at my grandfather's funeral, but we did.
“I've had to make peace with the fact that we're probably never gonna get genuine accountability or a genuine apology.
“You know, my wife and I, we're… We're moving on. We're focused on the…On what's coming next.”
Harry and Meghan, 41, stepped back from senior royal life in 2020. A year later, they gave acontroversial interview toOprah Winfrey.
Among the claims made during the sit-down was the allegation that an unnamed member of the Royal Family had made private comments to Harry about the skin colour of their then-unborn son,Archie.
The final volume of the Harry & Meghan Netflix documentary aired on Thursday morning – bringing with it a new set ofbombshell revelations.
New claims included Harry saying brother Prince William, 40,"screamed and shouted" at him during a meeting about his and Meghan's future. King Charles, meanwhile, was saying “things that just simply weren't true”, Harry alleged.
Elsewhere, Meghan revealed it was thelate Queen and the then-Prince Charles who suggested she write to her father Thomas following their estrangement. The letter was later leaked to a national newspaper.
Harry said he believed the stress caused by the leaked letter led toMeghan suffering a devastating miscarriage.
The Duchess of Sussex also told how she felt like a “foreign organism” when she first joined the Royal Family – while she was warned The Firmwould find it hard to adjust to her.
The latest episodes conclude the Harry & Meghan docuseries. The couple’s popularity in the UK is said to haveplummeted following its release.
