BBC Radio One presenter Chris Stark, 34, opted for casual attire, which consisted of a T-shirt, a coat, black trousers and smart shoes, for his chat with Prince William. Reflecting on the moment, he said he now regretted his choice of clothing. After their interview, the father-of-one said he received a letter from the Royal in which he made a dig about his look.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, he said: “It was a very humbling experience.

“Afterwards, he sent us a letter congratulating us on the birth of our son and had a bit of a joke about Watford being relegated and I just thought it was a really nice thing to do.

“He did make a little dig about what I was wearing, which I do have regrets about now actually.

“I do wonder, what the hell was I thinking? I was in a T-shirt and a coat.

“I actually thought I looked smarter than I was.”

He added: “No one had really said what to wear, they just said, ‘We’re going for beers and we just want everything to be as normal as possible’.

“Obviously that’s hard to do when you’re in a palace.

“But I did turn up and noticed the other guys were in proper shirts, I misjudged it.”

The radio presenter added that while he looks back and questions his decision, he thinks his look was “quite cool”.

“I know my gran would’ve loved that, she would’ve loved to have seen me rocking up in normal clothes,” he added.

The presenter previously said he didn’t realise pictures from their chat would go to press and was “hammered” about his appearance by social media users.

Despite his regretful outfit choice, Chris said the Duke of Cambridge was “great” to chat to.

He added: “He just talked for ages and ages. It was good having a beer with him. Admittedly, he had cider!

“It’s the kind of thing you do with your friends.

“I can’t say he’s one of my lads, but it was great to be able to sit down and talk honestly and openly.”

Away from his broadcasting duties, Chris is supporting Babybel’s #ForAllFans campaign, to give people the chance to give back to their local grassroots team.

According to Motor Research, almost a third of football fans believe they could have been “good enough” to play for their nation.

Despite so many people thinking they have what it takes to play at the highest level, the average supporter has only ever done 13 kick-ups.

Chris said of his involvement: “As much as I’ve always loved football, I’ve sadly never been good enough to get to professional level. That doesn’t stop me trying though, and I do consider myself to have some better than average skills when it comes to fancy footwork.

“What I love about the Babybel #ForAllFans campaign is that everyone can get involved – if I can upload and share a skill, so can you. It gives ‘average’ people, like me, the opportunity to give something back to a local sports team, and how often do we get to do that?”
