First time mum Priyanka Chopra has been praised as a ‘soldier’ this week by friends and family as she finally welcomed home her baby girl after over 100 tough days in hospital.
The actress and style icon, who is married to singer Nick Jonas, shared the news with fans alongside a sweet snap of the happy family to mark Mother’s Day in the United States.
Up until now, baby Malti Marie Chopra Jonas had been cared for in NICU, the neonatal intensive care unit, at a specialist hospital in Los Angeles following her birth on 15 January.
Yet after three gruelling months, the adorable infant was finally able to make it home to be with her loving parents – something the happy couple couldn’t be more grateful for.
In a caption accompanying the photo, Priyanka wrote: “On this Mother’s Day we can’t help but reflect on these last few months and the rollercoaster we’ve been on, which we now know, so many people have also experienced. After 100 plus days in the NICU, our little girl is finally home.”
Priyanka then continued: “Every family’s journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is.
“We are overjoyed that our little girl is finally home, and just want to thank every Doctor, nurse and specialist at Rady Children’s La Jolla and Cedar Sinai, Los Angeles, who were there selflessly every step of the way.
“Our next chapter begins now, and our baby is truly a badass. Let’s get it MM! Mommy and Daddy love you.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and caretakers in my life and out there. You make it look so easy. Thank you.”
Rounding off the post, Priyanka also paid tribute to husband Nick for his support throughout the process, adding: “Also.. there is no one I’d rather do this with than you. Thank you for making me a mama @nickjonas I love you.”
The couple announced the birth of baby Malti Marie back in January, with the pair revealing they had used a surrogate to expand their family.
Yet it was only in April that fans of the couple learnt her name, with TMZ reporting that that Priyanka and Nick had settled on Malti. Although the reasons behind the choice are unknown, 'Malti' generally means small fragrant flower or moonlight and is derived from Sanskrit.
