AceShowbiz -Queen Elizabeth II secretly battled cancer before she died at 96 years old earlier this year, according to a new book. In an upcoming biography of the late British monarch, author and broadcaster Gyles Brandreth details the alleged cause of the Queen’s deteriorating health before she passed away in September.
According to “Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait”, the Queen spent her final years suffering through the agony of bone marrow cancer. The most common symptom of the illness is bone pain.
“I had heard that the Queen had a form of myeloma – bone marrow cancer – which would explain her tiredness and weight loss and those ‘mobility issues’ we were often told about during the last year or so of her life,” Gyles writes in the book, which is being serialized by The Daily Mail.
“The most common symptom of myeloma is bone pain, especially in the pelvis and lower back, and multiple myeloma is a disease that often affects the elderly,” the former MP notes, before adding, “Currently, there is no known cure, but treatment – including medicines to help regulate the immune system and drugs that help prevent the weakening of the bones – can reduce the severity of its symptoms and extend the patient’s survival by months or two to three years.”
Gyles claims, “The truth is that Her Majesty always knew that her remaining time was limited. She accepted this with all the grace you’d expect.”
In her final year on the throne, the Queen had to cancel several events due to her health. Despite this, the monarch continued to be busy right up until her last day. Gyles writes that her royal duties were the best distraction for the Queen after Prince Philip died in April 2021.
By autumn of last year, however, she was urged by her doctors to take it easy due to fatigue. “I’ve got to be sensible,” she acknowledged of her declining health.
The public was told very little about the Queen’s health issue though. On her death certificate, her cause of death was listed as “old age.”
