Queen Elizabeth has been photographed smiling as she attended the Royal Ascot races on Saturday 19 June.

The 95 year old Monarch beamed in a mint green outfit, complete with a floral green dress and a matching blazer.

She also wore a hat of the same colour, which was embellished with a fascinator with pink and red roses on.

Queen Elizabeth arrived for her first appearance at the event, which started on Tuesday 15 June.

She smiled widely as she was given a warm welcome by her entourage. It is the first time the Queen has attended Royal Ascot since 2019.

The prestigious event was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, which caused events to grind to a halt amid a national lockdown.

Queen Elizabeth, who was introduced to Harry and Meghan's daughter via video call, arrived at the race course in a car just after 2pm. Shortly before her arrival, it was announced: "Ladies and gentleman we are pleased to announce that Her Majesty the Queen will be arriving at the Parade Ring at 2pm."

The Queen's appearance comes months after the death of her beloved husband Prince Philip, who passed away age 99 on Friday 9 April.

Prince Philip, whom the Queen was married to for 73 years, would have turned 100 on Saturday 10 June.

Royal expert Kate Nicholl told OK! some of her closest confidantes were by her side on the day.

She said: "The family will rally round the Queen on Philip's birthday.

"Those she's closest to, such as Prince Edward, his wife Sophie Wessex and Prince Andrew will move their schedules around to make sure they can spend the day with her."

The monarch marked Prince Philip's 100th birthday by planting a commemorative rose in his name at Windsor Castle.

Queen Elizabeth was gifted the shrub last week from the President of the Royal Horticultural Society, Keith Weed, who told the Queen: "It’s a rose named the Duke of Edinburgh Rose to mark his centenary and it’s a commemorative rose for all the marvellous things that he did over his lifetime and for everyone to remember so much that he did."

He added: "Each rose, there's a donation that goes to the Living Legacy Fund which will help more children. It's a beautiful flower in itself, a double flower."

To which she replied: "It looks lovely," and said it was "very kind" of him to present her with it.
