BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker took to social media last night to react to a post from former Strictly Come Dancing pro Kevin Clifton. It comes after the 44-year-old TV star was announced as the eighth contestant taking part in the upcoming series.

Dan is one of 10 celebrity contestants who have been revealed so far.

Ballroom dancer Kevin, 38, who starred in the show from 2013 to 2019, informed fans that he would be discussing the line-up in the latest edition of his podcast, The Kevin Clifton Show.

He then asked 248,000 followers what they thought of this year’s cast.

“It’s nearly @bbcstrictly season again,” Kevin tweeted, before tagging his sister Joanne Clifton into the post.

His younger sibling was also a professional dancer on the show from 2014 to 2016, winning with Ore Oduba in her final year.

“Me & @joanneclifton will be discussing everything on the podcast as usual.

“Thoughts on the celeb lineup so far? #TheKevinCliftonShow,” he asked.

This prompted Dan to hit back with his response.

“Rubbish. I haven’t [heard] of any of them,” he replied, adding a laughing emoji.

Many took to the comments section of the post to join in with the amusing exchange.

“There’s that guy who used to be on morning TV who said he’d never go on Strictly. So pleased he’s changed his mind – who is he again????” one social media user light-heartedly replied.

Playing along another added: “Me too. Haven’t even heard to this Dan guy who’s going to be on it. Some sort of TV legend? [laughing emoji].”(sic)

“My money is on @mrdanwalker to lift that glitter ball this year. Don’t let me down bud @bbcstrictly,” a third chipped in.

Correcting his tweet a fourth wrote: “*heard lol. Line up is great this year, really looking forward to it.”(sic)

Dan will be joined by a host of famous faces for the 19th series of the BBC dancing competition, which kicks off next month.

So far, they include; McFly star Tom Fletcher, actor Robert Webb, TV presenter AJ Odudu, chef John Whaite, former Corrie star Katie McGlynn, children’s TV presenter Rhys Stephenson, writer and producer Greg Wise, Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies and Gordon Ramsay’s daughter Tilly Ramsay.

Following the announcement, Dan said: “I am definitely excited, a little bit worried, mostly terrified and a small part of me is considering going into hiding!

“My kids have only ever asked me to go on two shows… Saturday Mash Up and Strictly.

“I did Saturday Mash Up this summer so… it’s time to embrace the sequins.”

The television presenter shares three children with his wife of 20 years Sarah.
