This Morning host Josie Gibson became emotional when discussing S Club’s Paul Cattermole with his former bandmates on the show, as they shared how their upcoming tour will honour him.
Paul died in April at the age of 46 due to “multiple heart issues”, just weeks after the band announced touring plans to celebrate their 25th anniversary as a group.
S Club’s Bradley McIntosh, Jo O'Meara, Jon Lee, Rachel Stevens, and Tina Barrett appeared on This Morning on Monday (July 31) to discuss their new single which is dedicated to their late friend.
During the conversation, they also spoke about how their upcoming tour will honour Paul by keeping in a lot of decisions made by him regarding their live show.
The music video for the single The Are The Days features video clips of the band together over the years and while watching a clip of it, Josie looked on the verge of tears as she said: "You've been so successful but so sad at the same time."
After being asked what it was like to look through the video clips, Jo replied: “It was tough. It was never going to be easy, but I think Paul was such a massive character and he was so silly, you do end up laughing because he was just always full of fun and full of happiness. I think moving forward, we just want to remember Paul for the happy chappy that he was."
Rachel went on to explain that a "lot of the decisions" regarding the band’s tour were "driven by Paul" and will remain in their upcoming live shows.
"When we're picking songs or when we're working out the screens, Paul is always such a big part of it," she said to which Josie replied: "It must be so beautiful for his family to see that."
Later, Josie seemed emotional again as she asked: "Did you feel Paul when you were shooting the video?"
"We talk about him all the time, there's always moments where we're like, 'Paul would have loved this,'" Jon replied before Bradley added: "The sun was shining that day."
One band member who was noticeably absent from the interview was Hannah Spearritt, something co-host Craig Doyle pointed out to the group.
He said: "We gotta talk about Hannah because she's obviously not here today and we read that, you know, you're hoping that she might re-join at some stage. In the papers today, slightly different story being told but I'll just tell you what's been said in the papers.
"It said that an 'anonymous source claimed that Hannah Spearritt is no longer on speaking terms with the band, claims that Hannah was not aware she wouldn't be included in the tour until the group posted a video on Instagram with tour details'. So that's what's been written in the newspapers today and I guess to give you the chance to respond to that. Jon?"
Jon replied: "I mean, for us, and for everyone listening actually, whenever an article starts with 'a source said' you can kind of take it with a pinch of salt. The one thing they did get right is that we are doing a 15 date tour across the country," he continued listing destinations the band is set to visit before Josie interjected: "The door is always open for Hannah, is that what you're saying?"
The band agreed the door would always be open for her, and branded claims to the contrary as "nonsense".
Jo added: "We're doing a lot of stuff in 2024 so you never know what's gonna happen in the future but I think just, right now, we're just really excited and really looking forward and concentrating on the tour and making it a really special show."
