In the weeks before welcoming their first child, most women are at home nesting and putting their feet up – but Christine Quinn isn’t your average mum.

Just 48 hours before she gave birth, the Selling Sunset star was on the red carpet with her husband Christian Richard for the MTV Movie and TV Awards in Los Angeles.

“I was dilated on the red carpet,” the 32-year-old tells us over Zoom from her home in the City of Angels. “It’s crazy to think about.”

Christine was two weeks early and didn’t realise she was in labour at the time. But after her waters broke two days later, she and Christian, a retired tech entrepreneur, had to make the mad dash to hospital.

And of course, fashionista Christine was never going to make the journey in any old thing, opting to travel in style in a Lamborghini.

What happened next was a “traumatic” and “scary” experience after the Oppenheim Group real estate agent had to have an emergency C-section.

Thankfully, Christian Georges Dumontet arrived safely at 4:22pm on 15 May, weighing 6lbs 14oz – just 22 minutes after his parents arrived at the hospital!

Here, alongside exclusive pictures, Christine tells us about getting advice from Khloé Kardashian and whether we’ll be seeing baby Christian on the new series of the Netflix show…

Congratulations, Christine! How are you feeling?

I’m finally at a point where I’ve recovered almost 100%, so I’m feeling good and I’m walking around. The first week was really hard because I physically couldn’t take care of the baby. I was changing his diaper the other day and he was peeing and pooping all over me and I was like, “I’m so glad I can experience this now!” The fact I enjoy being peed and pooped on shows how much my life has changed.

Definitely! Tell us about naming him…

We wanted a C name but it was really difficult trying to find one. Christian mentioned it’s very traditional in France for them to be named after their father and then the middle name to be after their grandfather, so that’s what we did, as we were at a loss for names.

We love that you all have C names…

I know! Like the Kardashians [with their K names]. I love it.

You’re friends with Khloé Kardashian. Has she given you any advice about motherhood?

She’s so sweet and supportive, and has given me so much advice. The number-one thing she said was that they grow up so fast, cherish every moment and take lots of pictures, so that’s what I’ve been doing. We actually have a lot of mutual friends but we started becoming friends on Instagram. She’s so inspirational and going into motherhood she was my ultimate mom goal! She was everything to me, from watching her birth to her struggles with infertility. I actually invited her to my baby shower and she was going to come but she was in Palm Springs for Mother’s Day.

You previously said you would like to film your birth for the show. Were you able to?

Because of Covid, it wasn’t an option, but my birth situation was quite extraordinary to say the least. I was labouring for two days and I didn’t know! I knew I was cramping and I told my doctor, but they said it was normal and I wasn’t in excruciating pain. It was just dismissed as Braxton Hicks. Then my body couldn’t take it any more and my waters broke.

What happened next?

I couldn’t even put clothes on! I couldn’t put pants or panties on because I physically couldn’t stop gushing water, so I had to rush to hospital in a towel! It was not glamorous by any means.

Wow! But you did go to the hospital in a Lamborghini…

[Laughs] I know! It’s so funny because now I’ve started driving my Lamborghini and I have a car seat in the back I’m such a different driver. I’m like, “Listen, baby on board here!” I must be the craziest person ever for having an infant in the back of a Lamborghini, but there’s a first time for everything. I was thinking of getting a “Baby on board” sticker made because people must be like, “Why is she driving this car so slow?”

What happened once you got to the hospital?

From the time I walked into the hospital – I say walk, I was wheeled in and I was screaming – from arriving to him being born was 22 minutes. It was the quickest birth ever. A lot of decisions had to be made as the baby’s heart rate was dropping and my heart rate was dropping because I was in so much pain. I couldn’t get an epidural because I was already 9cm dilated. The baby had such a critical time period to get out of my body and he was coming out sideways, and the umbilical cord was wrapped around him. It was a little scary.

Then on top of that they were vacuuming my vagina! My co-star Maya [Vander] had this done but she had an epidural and she said it was the most painful thing ever, and I said, “Girl, they were trying to vacuum my vagina before they even put me under!” They were trying to have me push naturally and that’s what I wanted, but that didn’t work so they tried to suction the baby out but he wasn’t moving, so that’s when it was decided I needed a Caesarean.

Were you disappointed you had to have a Caesarean?

In retrospect, no one wants to have surgery, but at the end of the day it came down to the health of the baby. I was thankful for the skills of the doctors and nurses, because if not I don’t know if all three of us would have come home from the hospital. The whole thing is a bit of a blur because it took me time to get out of the anaesthesia and hold the baby. But even when I was holding him I was still a bit loopy. Christian was probably crying but I have no idea because I was so out of it. Queen Elizabeth could have been there and I wouldn’t have known!

And you’re looking incredible despite going through all that!

Thank you! It’s insane because I was 147lb before I gave birth. That was crazy for me to realise how much water weight I’d put on. But, believe it or not, I’m heavier than I’ve ever been, so to hear you say that makes me feel nice. But my body has definitely changed and I feel like it will never be the same, but that comes with motherhood and I’m accepting that. It’s been through hell and back, so if anyone tells me I look good, I’m like, “Thank you, but I don’t feel like it.”

Does baby Christian have an amazing wardrobe?

I’ve had so many amazing gifts. All my friends got me these adorable Burberry and Gucci outfits. Christine Chiu from Bling Empire got me the most amazing jungle car seat and Cherie Chan got me this cute Tiffany & Co. piggy bank that’s supposed to bring good luck. Once I get a chance to go shopping, he’s going to have loads and as soon as I get time I can’t wait to get some matching custom-made outfits.

Wow! Was his Louis Vuitton necklace a gift?

It’s actually mine. I thought that outfit was so cute and he looked like a little rapper, and had his hand behind his head, so I just thought he needed a chain necklace. I thought it was the cutest thing ever because it’s so big and ridiculous on him – but that’s me!

You went back to work a week after giving birth. What’s that been like?

It’s been incredible. For me that was like the healing process because I enjoy being busy and doing my job. It makes me feel human and complete. I was walking around the house and feeling good, but when I went back to work I felt like I was back and mentally my body started healing faster.

You said you’ve had to defend yourself from “mommy shamers” over working. What have people said?

I’ve had the most nasty things. I’ve had people saying, “I don’t even think you had a baby, I think you’re faking it!” Other people have said, “I can’t believe you’re already back to work!” It’s just one of those things I’ve learned to deal with and I do what’s right for me and makes me happy. I don’t miss any time with my baby because he’s at home sleeping, so what’s the difference?

Exactly! Do you have a nanny?

No. Christian works from home and watches him for a few hours, so it makes my life amazing.

Is he hands-on?

[Laughs] You’re so funny! No he is, but it’s so funny because right around diaper changing time, I find he always disappears. He’s really helpful except for diaper changes. It’s so cute watching him be a dad. I’ve not seen him smile like this in a really long time. It’s a different kind of love.

Has baby Christian made his filming debut yet?

He has! We’re still working on season four. It was really important to me to share every aspect of my life. There was a moment where I didn’t know if I wanted him on camera, and then I was like, “No, I do because that’s what makes me real, because I did go through all these experiences”. I want people to be able to relate and show I have struggles and traumas too.

Who out of the cast met him first?

Maya and Davina [Portaz] and then Amanza [Smith] and Vanessa [Villela, a new cast member]. Everyone in the cast has got me some amazing gifts.

And you said even [show frenemy] Chrishell Stause has said congratulations…

She did, and she sent me a gift, which was really sweet of her. She sent me this little book and a stuffed animal. Mary [Fitzgerald] sent me a cute blanket. I appreciate it, I just don’t get to see those girls really as I don’t work or film with them.

Would you like to add to your brood?

I definitely do want more, it’s just a matter of timing and me feeling comfortable getting pregnant again, and hoping everything will be okay. I wasn’t even really comfortable telling my birth story a week ago, so it’s all about me easing into the comfort level.

Was that because you were in shock?

Yeah, I was traumatised. Christian was trying to tell to me what happened and I was like, “Nope! I don’t want to hear it, tell me when I’m out of the hospital.” It was too soon.

Do you think having baby Christian has changed your relationship?

Absolutely. It’s brought us closer together in so many ways and it’s been wonderful. This angel is half me and half him and it’s so cute to think about. I always joke that he can’t divorce me now because we have a baby [laughs]!
