Simon Rimmer slams ‘cruel’ Love Island after daughter asked to appear on show

Sunday Brunch: Tim Lovejoy makes dig at Simon Rimmer

As Love Island gets set to return to our screens tomorrow night, Sunday Bruch star Simon Rimmer has described it as “cruel”, while revealing that his daughter was asked to appear on it.

Simon, 60, has an online cookery programme with Flo, 25, called Flo and Simon Taste the World.

This, in part, led to producers approaching her about featuring on the reality show.

“Basically, they picked her up from Instagram because she has quite a big following because she has done stuff with me online and she turned it down,” he revealed.

Expressing his relief that she turned it down, he said: “I wouldn’t say it would be my dream job for her.

“But if she decided to do it… She wouldn’t do it to find love, she would be like, ‘You know what, this could be a career opportunity.’

“She’s quite savvy so she would do it for those reasons,” he said in an interview with MailOnline.

“I find it a hard watch. I find it cruel. I also think it is a massive step back for feminism and women,” he continued.

Express.co.uk has contacted ITV for comment.

In recent years Love Island has actively recruited the offspring of various stars for the show.

Last year’s summer series featured both Michael Owen’s daughter Gemma, 20, and Ronan Keating’s son Jack, 24.

The upcoming series sees, Molly Marsh 24, the daughter of Coronation Street actress Janet Marsh joining the lineup.

Meanwhile, Simon has also revealed that he and Flo aren’t the only chefs in the family.

His wife Ali is also a chef and his son Hamish, 20, also has a love of cooking, which makes for competitive mealtimes at home.

“We’re in that ridiculous situation where I have to have four barbecues in my house,” he revealed.

“I’ve got one that smokes, I’ve got a gas one, I’ve got a traditional little kettle one, and then I’ve also got a small plug-in one that heats up really, really quickly,” he explained in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.

“But we all cook and we’re a competitive family when it comes to the barbecue as well as things like who can make the best salads and who can do the best burger.

“Bearing in mind what I do for a living, and I know that I’m actually the best out of all of them, but they all like to think that they know better than me,” he said.
