Strictly’s Amy Dowden surrounds herself with family after breast cancer diagnosis aged 32

After sharing her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this week, Amy Dowden has enjoyed a day with her family as she attended her nephew's first birthday party.

The professional ballroom dancer is known for her time on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, and shared the news of her cancer diagnosis in an emotional Instagram post last week.

Amy revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, but was "determined to get back on that dance floor".

Despite the difficult news, Amy was all smiles as she attended her nephew Jacob’s birthday party to celebrate him turning one, sharing a series of adorable snaps of the two of them enjoying the day on her Instagram.


Amy was seen wearing a summery white floral blouse and black sunglasses as she held her nephew, who looked adorable and ready for his party in a white shirt and bowtie.

Captioning the photos, she wrote: “Our darling nephew Jacob is 1! Got him his first set of wheels. But he’s more impressed with soaking his outfit with his outdoor rainforest water table! We love you Jacob! Happy first birthday party darling”.

Amy has already spoken out about the support she’s been receiving from her family as she thanked everyone for their well wishes.

After sharing the news of her diagnosis on Instagram on Wednesday, Amy followed up her post with a comment thanking her fans, writing: “Thank u for every single comment and message today! It means so much to me and my incredible family I'm so lucky to be surrounded by! Thank you”.

Following the news, representatives for Strictly Come Dancingrevealed they will not be replacing Amyon this season of Strictly, saying: "We will not be recasting for another professional dancer for 2023."

Amy has been a professional dancer on the hit competition since 2017, and in June last year she took part in a charity trek to raise awareness for breast cancer charity CoppaFeel.

She shared withHello!magazine that she has checked her breasts the day before her belated honeymoon with new husband Benjamin Jones, when she felt a hard lump in her right breast.

After keeping an eye on it, she noticed that it had grown so made in immediate appointment with her GP, who referred her for an emergency appointment within 24 hours, who diagnosed her with stage three breast cancer.

Amy said: "Three is the most aggressive, but they feel like they've caught mine early and to not be too alarmed because grade 3 would be expected in somebody of my age."
