David Johansen, Blondie‘s Debbie Harry and several other singers will be paying tribute to late guitarist Sylvain Sylvain at a virtual concert that will take place on Sunday (February 14).
The live-stream on Valentine’s Day, to be presented by Rolling Live Studios and the New York venue Bowery Electric, will celebrate the life and career of Sylvain. The concert will begin at 7 pm ET.
Sylvain (69) passed away on January 13 after a long battle with cancer. Sylvain, who was part of the New York Dolls‘ original lineup, played multiple instruments for the band, and co-wrote several songs for the group.
After his time with the Dolls, Sylvain continued to associate with Johansen on his solo recordings. He later reunited with the surviving members of the Dolls and recorded three albums with them.
“While we grieve his loss, we know that he is finally at peace and out of pain. Please crank up his music, light a candle, say a prayer and let’s send this beautiful doll on his way,” read a statement confirming his death.
“I don’t know how to explain it, but physically there was a heavy weight on my chest. I’m still kind of processing it. I’m sure I will be for the rest of my life, be processing it,” Johansen told Rolling Stone after Sylvain’s death. “The New York Dolls would have been a crappy band without him.”
