The Most Powerful Larry King Quotes Ever – Nicki Swift

Though he started by talking to celebrities, Larry King became a celebrity in his own right for his legendary interviews on CNN’s Larry King Live. King was called the “Muhammad Ali of the broadcast interview” and it’s not hard to see why; he had an iconic 50-year career in broadcasting, interviewing the top political leaders and celebrities of his time. Through it all, he left us some pretty inspiring quotes.

The host of Larry King Live grew up in Brooklyn, he was the son of immigrants, and never went to college. King never forgot his roots; he told The Washington Post, “I pinch myself every day. That’s the real truth. I was a kid who was on relief. My father died. New York City bought my first pair of glasses. I never forgot being poor and I never stopped thinking how fortunate I am.” King kept his success in perspective.

Despite his humble beginnings, King always knew he was destined for more. “I worked on the United Parcel Service truck, I sold home delivery of milk. But always, in the back of my mind, I wanted to get into radio,” he once said (via The Telegraph).

Of course, Larry King had plenty of other quotes worth revisiting. Keep scrolling to read more of King’s most powerful quotes.

Larry King loved interviewing people

Larry King loved talking to people and didn’t consider interviewing people as work, he thought it was fun. The iconic host confessed to The Washington Post, “Basically what it comes down to is I love what I do. I don’t do it for fame. I don’t do it for money. I just love it. I just love asking questions. I love people. It’s in my DNA. I’m cursed — and blessed.”

His rise from Brooklyn to interviews with world leaders and celebrities gave King a humble outlook. Newsweek highlighted one of the legendary talk show host’s most famous quotes, when King said, “I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I’m going to learn, I must do it by listening.”

Fields Jackson, Jr., CEO of Racing Towards Diversity, also recalled a relevant quote from King, “Those who have succeeded at anything and don’t mention luck are kidding themselves,” he tweeted.

Other memorable quotes from King include “If you do something, expect consequences,” and “I never use the word ‘I’ when I interview someone. I think it’s irrelevant.” Perhaps the quote that sums King up the best, though, is “I’ve had a great ride. I’ve got no complaints.”  The world will miss this wise man.
