The Queen smiles in adorable picture with Prince Philip ahead of funeral and shares thanks for ‘messages of condolence’

Ahead of Prince Philip's funeral on Saturday, The Queen has shared an adorable picture of herself with her husband.

Her Majesty, who will wear touching jewellery at the funeral, shared a sweet snap on The Royal family's official Instagram account.

In the picture, Prince Philip and The Queen can be seen beaming from ear to ear at the camera as they pose for the photo in Scotland.

The post was captioned: "The Queen wishes to share this private photograph taken with The Duke of Edinburgh at the top of the Coyles of Muick, Scotland in 2003.

"Her Majesty and the Royal Family are grateful for all the messages of condolence from all around the world and have been touched to see and hear so many people sharing fond memories of The Duke, in celebration of his life."

Prince Philip passed away peacefully on Friday 9 April, with Buckingham Palace confirmng the news in a statement.

It read: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will made in due course.

"The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

The Duke of Edinburgh will have his body laid to rest within the private chapel in Windsor Castle on Saturday 17 April.

The guest list of the ceremony has been limited to 30 people because of the ongoing Coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

The list of attendees includes immediate family, including the Queen’s four children, however it was recently revealed Sarah Ferguson will not be in attendance.

Three of Prince Philip's German family will attend his funeral and are currently isolating at a home in Ascot.

Two great-nephews and a cousin are part of a bubble at a home in Berkshire, and they were quietly flown to the UK last weekend, ahead of the funeral.

They are Bernhard, Hereditary Prince of Baden, Prince Donatus, Landgrave of Hesse, and Prince Philipp of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
