President Joe Biden was sworn into office on January 20, 2021. In addition to the many politicians in attendance, celebrities from Lady Gaga to Garth Brooks were also present. Chrissy Teigen traveled to Washington, D.C. for the event but didn’t spend her morning the way some might think. Here’s what happened.
Chrissy Teigen supported Joe Biden’s run for president in 2020
It’s no secret that Teigen wasn’t exactly a fan of Donald Trump. The 45th president of the U.S. held a negative opinion of her, and she felt the same about him (and his policies). So it wasn’t particularly surprising that the Lip Sync Battle commentator supported his opponent in the 2020 presidential election.
When Biden was confirmed as the winner of the election, Teigen and her husband, singer John Legend, celebrated in a unique fashion. As West Hollywood residents took to the streets, the couple participated in a drive-by, hanging out the drop of their car and joining in on the cheers.
She attended a rally for Biden and Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania
While many celebrities express their support for a particular candidate, few actually get the chance to spend time with them. But Legend was chosen as a performer for a Pennsylvania rally ahead of the November 2020 election. So he, Teigen, and their kids Luna and Miles headed to the east coast state.
Though Legend was the performer in Philadelphia, Teigen also found herself on stage. “All I could muster was ‘hi everyone!’” she tweeted, sharing videos from the event. “This mouth of mine and that’s all I could do. An honor to be in Philly to support Kamala and Joe.”
Teigen traveled to Washington D.C. for the inauguration
In January 2021, Legend was announced as a performer at the inauguration. The artist, Teigen, and their children traveled from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., to attend the event. And in Teigen’s usual style, she shared key moments from their travels.
At a rehearsal the night before, Teigen posted several photos and videos. “What in the…wow. This is amazing,” she tweeted in one. But not everyone was happy with her behind-the-scenes images. “LMAO apparently that was all supposed to be a secret and i got scolded so act surprised tomorrow I’m crying,” Teigen tweeted.
She ‘reported live’ from her hotel room window
On Inauguration Day, Teigen posted a series of clips on Twitter and in her Instagram Story. She explained she was “reporting live,” though really, all she could see were reporters and others on the street below. Along with Legend, she watched as Jennifer Lopez and Biden himself made their way to the event.
So why was Teigen stuck in her hotel room? “Can’t go anywhere til we get our results,” she explained. “Tested 7 of the last 7 days for various shoots and this event. please lord fingers crossed you don’t have to hear my window news anymore.” It all worked out. “Negative ahhhhhhhhh now I can get dressed and report live like a god d*mn professional,” she added.
