What We Know About Meghan And Harry’s Interview With Oprah

On Valentine’s Day 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed that they have a second baby on the way. They kept that momentum going into the next day. CBS shared a statement with People announcing that the royal couple will sit down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. The statement said, “Winfrey will speak with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a Royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure.” That’s not all though: “Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”

It is unclear if the interview has already been recorded, but it will air March 7, 2021, on CBS. While the Sussexes have their fair share of critics, it is evident that they have an ally in Winfrey. She attended their wedding back in 2018. They also live close to Winfrey in their new California home. In December 2020, Winfrey flexed her influence to endorse Markle’s line of vegan coffee, Clevr Blends, with an Instagram video. The talk show host has been very supportive of Markle and Prince Harry in recent years, so it is fair to assume that she will have their backs during their televised conversation, but what will the couple’s estranged family members think when it airs?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's interview might "embarrass" the royal family

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle publicly announced their decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, they made some confusing moves, sometimes asking for privacy and other times seizing attention from the media. Phil Dampier, author of Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan In Their Own Words, told Daily Mail that the announcement of the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey is the “last thing the Queen and the rest of the royal family will want to hear at the moment.” He predicted, “The Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William will be bracing themselves for a series of accusations and revelations.”

Royal expert Robert Johnson told the website that the Suits alum and the prince “seem hell bent on causing the Queen more discomfort and possible embarrassment,” describing the interview as “a betrayal of trust.” He elaborated, “Harry, who claimed he wanted to escape the publicity of being a front-line royal, has swapped duty for a cash bonanza deal with Netflix.” To clarify, it is unclear if the Sussexes will be paid for the interview.

No one from the royal family has commented on Prince Harry and Markle’s interview, but, perhaps, they are just waiting to see what they end up saying.
