American blues-rock band ZZ Top‘s bassist Dusty Hill has died at the age of 72. The band said Hill passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, Texas.
“We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature, and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top,'” ZZ Top said on its official website.
“We will forever be connected to that “Blues Shuffle in C. You will be missed greatly, amigo,” said the band’s vocalist and guitarist Billy Gibbons, and drummer Frank Beard, the two remaining members of the band.
ZZ Top is an American rock band formed in 1969 in Houston by Gibbons.
Beard and Hill joined in 1969 and 1970 respectively; this lineup lasted until Hill’s death.
The band shared last week that Hill was “on a short detour back to Texas, to address a hip issue.” They replaced Hill with Elwood Francis.
