My quiet life has been taken over by my demanding step-grandson | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: MY quiet life has been taken over by a demanding ten-year-old boy.

He’s my step-grandson and is living with us as part of a child protection order.

I’m a woman of 50 and my husband is 52.

My husband’s grandson is a good kid and it’s not his fault he’s with us. His parents have a history of drug abuse.

My problem isn’t really with the boy, it’s with my husband who thinks that it’s OK for his grandson to sit with the iPad, or play on his Xbox from dawn to dusk.

My husband works as a builder so he eats dinner, then goes up to our room “to chill” and leaves me with his grandchild.

I’d never tell this lovely boy he’s not wanted because I do love him, but it’s down to me to make sure he does his homework, entertain him, arrange his play dates and go through countless appointments with social services.

I’m fed up.

DEIDRE SAYS: You need to find a moment to talk to your husband about sharing the responsibility of his grandson.

As you say, it’s not the child’s fault but it isn’t your fault either. This isn’t what you signed up for.

Explain that he has to do his share to help his grandson.
