In a new magazine interview, the ‘Easy on Me’ hitmaker reflects on her decision to postpone ‘Weekends with Adele’ a day before it was set to open which earned her huge backlash.
AceShowbiz –Adele has opened up about the real reason why she had to postpone her 2022 Las Vegas residency dates earlier this year. In a cover story for ELLE which was published on Monday, August 15, the “Easy on Me” hitmaker reflected on the decision, which earned her backlash as it upset fans.
“It was the worst moment in my career, by far,” the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter said. “By far. I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating.”
The British star went on to say that the show didn’t feel quite up to par with what she wanted to give her fans. “There was just no soul in it,” she explained. “The stage setup wasn’t right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment.”
In the interview, Adele also discussed people’s outrage following the postponement, which she announced in a tearful video just hours before the concert was set to open at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. “The first couple of months was really, really hard,” she admitted.
“I was embarrassed. But it actually made my confidence in myself grow, because it was a very brave thing to do. And I don’t think many people would have done what I did. I’m very proud of myself for standing by my artistic needs,” the superstar added.
She went on to tease what fans can expect in her reimagined residency, which is set to kick off in November. “I want to tell the story of the beginning of my career to now,” Adele shared. “I’m not gonna give too much about it, but the show grows. The show grows. It’s all about the music, and it’s really, really nostalgic. It’s gonna be really beautiful… I haven’t got any bullet points, obviously, when I talk. That’s why my shows are so erratic. One time I gave, like, an hour speech about an aquarium!”
The 34-year-old musician announced rescheduled dates for her “Weekends with Adele” on July 25. “Words can’t explain how ecstatic I am to finally be able to announce these rescheduled shows,” she wrote. “I truly was heartbroken to have to cancel them. But after what feels like an eternity of figuring out logistics for the show that I really want to deliver, and knowing it can happen, I’m more excited than ever!”
Reiterating her apology for postponing the shows earlier this year, she added, “Now I know for some of you it was a horrible decision on my part, and I will always be sorry for that, but I promise you it was the right one. To be with you in such an intimate space every week has been what I’ve most been looking forward to and I’m going to give you the absolute best of me. Thank you for your patience, I love you.”
